I've eaten at Maxie's Southern Comfort several times now and every time gets better than the last. If you want the comfort of huge portions, tasty food and freshness, this is your place.
We went in the first time for happy hour specials (not only half price drinks but half-price raw oysters, peel and eat shrimp and fried green tomatoes) but came back for dinner several times.
First, every meal starts out with homemade corn bread and orange honey butter. I have one word for this: ADDICTION. So savory and sweet.
Next up, entrees? You really can't go wrong. Over the times we've been there, I've tried several things including mac n' cheese, shrimp and grits, jambalaya... The mac n' cheese is INSANE!! Gooey, cheesey and huge. There's no way you can pass it up. Everything is huge, hearty portions. I fully recommend the pulled pork or jambalaya. The Jambalaya is packed with seafood and chicken, served over rice, the sauce has a hint of spice but is so savory, you can't stop eating. We also had the shrimp and grits- love the tasso sauce. My boyfriend ordered the bleu cheese burger, perfect for anyone not huge on southern creole food.
I was totally shocked how much they cater to vegetarians too-- they have an entire section of sandwiches and entrees dedicated to the non-meat eater. The tofu is firm and seasoned.
I love you Maxie's! I'll definitely be back.
