I was an off-and-on again client for almost 15 years for haircuts only. After a few strands of gray appeared, Ronnie suggested I start trying color. 3 times he attempted to achieve the right color. From the first time, while my hair was still wet even, my reaction was 'this is much too blonde'. The stylist proceeded to tell me it looked great and ignored the fact that I was not happy. When I returned to correct the color and mentioned I was concerned multiple corrections were going to damage my hair, he stated that 'hair color doesn't damage hair' which of course I now know to be untrue; these are ammonia-based/chemical hair dye.
Most disappointing was that I took the time to ensure that he understood what I wanted. We looked at swatch books together and picked out a range of complimentary tones. The result was nowhere near what we agreed to in the consultation. None of the swatches we chose even had a hint of blond; they were warm, maybe a little hint of red, rich brunette shades. The comments I received from friends over the months between all the colorings were how 'orange' my hair looked; it was very brassy and in certain lighting even took on a green/gold cast.
After months of enduring hats and disliking my hair, I tried correcting the color again, but this time at a salon that specialized in color. The result was satisfactory, but the texture of my hair at that point was so dry and 'cripsy' that I made the choice to shave my head and start anew. Extreme as it was, it was the best choice and I actually had fun wearing wigs for a few months.
Six months later, I now have soft, shiny healthy hair in an cute pixie style and am blessed to have found a fantastic new colorist who not only has a good eye for color, but also uses organic, chemical-free hair color.
Pros: Good haircuts.
Cons: Bad haircolor.
