Well, I really don't know what Jewel 1023's problem is, but this bar has always been an East Village retreat for me. (I have been going there for the last 5 years.) There's nothing shady about it, it doesn't cater to the loud-and-rowdy-barely-able-to-legally-drink-crowd and their Irish whisky selection is quite decent. What it is for me is a cozy, dog and kid friendly, laid back space with a lovely wood bar, brick walls, great bartenders and cool folks who have intellects and great stories. And there's always good music playing - live or stereo. Consider it Cheers East Village, with a bit more eccentricity.
