I had shopped at BR when I was a youngster, not knowing any better. When I moved to L.A. for my career, found much better places to shop, offline and online. I moved back here and just recently went in search of a baritone saxophone mouthpiece. Mouthpieces can be very pricey, $75-$300+. I was in search of a remarkably cheap mouthpiece from Rico Royal, advertised online at several places for $15, because I had read reviews and I was curious.
I ask if they price match, they said they did. So I tell them the website and such... the manager says, ""We need to check that out, so we don't get screwed."" My mouth dropped, but I said nothing, knowing that there are people that come in and try to pull one over. I still can't believe she said that in front of a customer.
They wouldn't give me the mouthpiece for the online price, but do give it to me for 26 cents more. Why 26 cents more, I have no idea, but that was close enough and I wouldn't have to wait for it to ship, so I took the deal.
Then, I inquire about another mouthpiece that they have, having seen it for $59 online. The manager looks at me, huffs and says, ""That's a 'magic' number. We can't do that."" Proceeds to roll her eyes and go on with what she was doing.
Excuse me, a magic number? What on earth is that? I had the website, perfectly legitimate verification for the price of the item and she basically told me, in so many words, that I was lying.
I don't know what made her day bad, but there was no need for her to take it out on me and to act in such an unprofessional way.
Not only that, when I asked about a price on a vintage saxophone that normally sells for between $3500-$5500 at any reputable dealer, I was told it was $8000. Eight grand!?!?! That is a SEVERE and completely unnecessary markup!
Customer service alone at that store is atrocious, I would not buy an instrument or any accessories from them ever again.
Pros: They almost price match.
Cons: No selection, Extremely overpriced on what they have.
