New Ownership Is Not Always A Good Thing 7/23/2009

The Lunch Bunch at work used to frequent this restaurant often as it was one of the better Shockoe Slip lunch places, but today me and four of my compadres agreed that we would never again return after the unbelievably disappointing and actually sickening lunch we had today. I ordered the beef teryaki which formerly had about 5 or 6 strips of prime beef as the main course. Today I received a minute portion of what appeared to be dog food. . . tiny wads of fat that were stewed in their own grease. As soon as I saw my food I asked the waitress about the change. She told me that the new owners thought it was too expensive to keep getting the good stuff anymore and that they decided to buy this cheap cut instead. I actually became physically ill soon after leaving. I felt like I had eaten a bucket of grease with all the taste of shoe leather. One of my companions complained that his tiny portion consisted almost entirely of onions, while another remarked about his burnt wonton. Everyone thought that the portions were tiny and the food was terrible, and we all agreed we would never return. This restaurant now gets all thumbs down, one star is overrated. Pros: Formerly a great restaurant Cons: New Ownership = Small Portions Poorly Prepared more
