Horrible Drivers Ed Experience 1/21/2009

I wasn't expecting much from driver's education. Most of my peers had already told me that it was pretty much a big waste of time, but I figured that I might as well get it over with even if it was mostly common sense. I thought maybe at least I could learn a few helpful tricks here or there. I was so wrong. The classes were just like everyone had described to me, pointless. Three hour sessions that were filled beginning to end with PowerPoint slideshows that, after the first class, would just keep on regurgitating the same information for the remainder of the classes. I've been told my writing is repetitive but no one knows repetitive until they've had to stay awake through 33 hours of this nonsense. To make it even more painful the instructor was flat out rude. All students were treated as inferiors and on top of that it felt like the instructor had as little desire to be there as we did. One other thing that we found out recently is that there is an additional $210 fee that you are contractually obligated to pay if the class is not 100% completed within 90 days of the beginning of the session. This means that if there are ANY missing class hours, in seat driving hours, or homework sheets they have the right to charge you for an additional 90 days no matter how little or much makeup you have to do. The classes that I was in were on Saturdays so only other Saturday lessons were available to me if I needed makeup time. This means that of the 90 days that were originally allotted 77 were taken up by regular class time (one class a week for eleven weeks) which leaves a mere two more Saturdays to make up any missing work. I don't know about anyone else but to me it sounds like your schedule has to coincide with theirs fairly well for this to work out. Overall this has added up to me paying considerably more than expected for a subpar instructional course with the only benefit being the reduced 50 hour driving requirement for getting an Oregon license. more
