I've never been a margarita fan, but I'm a fiend for a good mojito. I was pleased to see it on the menu. However, it's very unfortunate that Benny's failed miserably in their mojito offering. When i ordered, the bartender told me they were out of mint but she'd see if she could grab some. Now, i've always been of the school of thought that in order to offer menu item a restaurant should A. have ingredients on hand to make it, and B. know how to make it. I'm appreciative that the bartender ran out for fresh mint but, taking my first sip, it was apparent that having ingredients on hand was not the only issue they had with their menu. For those who don't know, a mojito should be prepared with: white rum, soda, and simple syrup poured over a generous helping of fresh mint muddled with3 or 4 slices of lime and a dash of sour to finish. What i got at benny's was a lime juice and rum cocktail with a couple shreds of mint floating around. I'm a brutal critic but I do try to make the best of a bad meal or drink before giving up. So i asked the bartender if she could add more simple syrup and sadly I had to explain to her what it was as in her obliviousness to its existence she had failed to add it in the first place. Again what was put in front of me was pitiful, instead of simple syrup I received a couple of sugar packets dissolved into a rocks glass of hot water. In the end I slid my drink back her way explaining that it just didn't work out and asked for a budweiser instead. So far I've only criticized their preparation and neglected to mention service as service was neglectful in and of itself. While I was choking down my citrus satire of a mojito and trying to get the bartender's attention, she was busy chatting with her two trashed friends about after work plans. I could care less if you've got friends at work but the least you can do is fake paying attention to the two dissatisfied customers dropping 80$ on food sitting 3 feet away from you. Pros: none found this visit Cons: service, ignorance of mixology.
