My Favorite Indian Restaurant in the NW 4/7/2008

Indian cuisine has always been one of my favorite types of food. The unusual spices, fresh naan bread, and rich desserts are what attract me to it. From my experience as an Indian food ""connoisseur? I have found that most Indian restaurants are about the same in quality. Thus, they are never terribly bad, nor particularly exceptional in food quality, service, or restaurant environment. There are two restaurants that come to mind that do not fit this pattern. They are ?Shalimar? and ?Cedars?. Everyone seems to rave about Cedars but honestly, it is just as good as Shalimar. In fact, Cedars costs a bit more, is terribly overcrowded (to the point of annoyance), and apparently, is run by a rather unpleasant man who does not treat his employees with respect. The food at Shalimar tastes just as good, and does not come with all the negativities listed above. My personal favorites are the tender lamb vindaloo, zesty garlic naan, fruity mango lassy, and of course, for dessert, the rich rice pudding. On top of the amazing food, Shalimar has a truly beautiful interior. Peaceful music, traditional Indian decor, and pleasant staff make for a great experience. Honestly, I believe I am addicted to this restaurant. I bring my friends here, treat people to dessert on special occasions (more so to treat myself), and cannot survive one month without going here. Considering that I am a poor college student who takes great consideration when paying more than $7.00 for a meal, that?s saying a lot. Pros: Delicious food, beautiful restaurant, consistently good more
