Well, there had to be a first time. In nearly 60 years of dining all over the world, I have never before had a restaurant manager storm out of the kitchen and berate me for returning a meal that was not suitably prepared. The offensive item was a piece of beef ordered ""very rare"" and served ""medium."" After being informed by the waiter that ""this was the rarest it could be cooked"" (which drew laughs from those at our table, all of whom are highly-experienced in the hospitality industry), I simply said, ""never mind; cancel the order."" To my astonishment, the next thing I noticed was a wild-haired, wild-eyed gesticulating person standing next to me wanting to start an argument. It announced that he was the manager and continued the tantrum. Eventually, after everyone else was becoming visibly uncomfortable, I could no longer ignore him, so I encouraged his departure with, ""You're ruining our dinner; please just go away."" He did.
Pros: Splendid setting. Wait staff are often enthusiastic.
Cons: Crazy manager who argues with patrons; as for service, enthusiasm is no substitute for professionalism.
