Worst communication in office, and you have to be pro - active to find right therapist for your child. 11/20/2008

I have been taking my child here for awhile, and while there were many things I was not pleased with, I decided to continue to give it a try. Some of the therapists here are very good. However, you have to be proactive and find the right one for you. Generally, they will just assign you to a speech therapist based on availability. That is just the way they do it here. I disagree with this, because each child has different needs, and some speech therapists specialize in different things. So, while your child may need a certain therapist, it does not matter, because you will get assigned to whoever needs another client.\r Second...office communication is the worst. Are these people not making enough money that they cannot have someone answer the phones during any office hours?? Even if they set aside a time, of 2 hours each day, just to be available to answer calls, that would be nice. Your only bet is to leave a voicemail message, and then wait until they get back to you. Sometimes they do not, and it's up to you to continue to call. Third, I felt they were initially misleading, telling me that they believed my insurance would cover the therapy. I had told them the specific name, and they of course, admitted that they had other clients with the same insurance, and while they were difficult to insure, they made me believe that some of their other clients had gotten approval. The initial evaluation itself is a couple hundred, and I was told that would be covered as well. It was not. Upon speaking to my insurance, I have found that no one with my insurance has ever been approved for it, so I do not know what Capital Area Speech was talking about. I felt they were misleading, and just wanted me to get the initial evaluation done, no matter what. They would not give me any other information without having that initial evaluation done. Also, I felt that the person heading the office and owner, Susan, is quite snooty to deal with. I would not recommend this place. Pros: They do have a few people on staff who are competent speech therapists Cons: The place is not run well, office head is snooty, poor communication, expensive at 40.00 an hour more
