I've eaten some of the best Thai food around, again and again and again. And I'm not just an angry person venting at all, this was honestly the worst food I've ever had, and I opted to try it from the fairly good reviews I've read on here. I've driven by Chao Krung a thousand times, and decided to give it a try. They first said delivering from their Beverly -Fairfax location was too far to my Pico-LaCienega dwellings. OK, I'll pick up. The classic Tom kha coconut soup was so salty it was inedible. The black pepper garlic tofu was steamed tofu chunks sitting in a completely bland broth. After trying to order Pad Kee Mao (a spicy version of pad see ew), I stuck with the Pad ""zew"" because they seemed clueless as to what Pad kee Mao even was. The Pad zew came completely dry, none of the gravy that it ALWAYS comes in at ANY Thai place, and I twice bit into GIANT pieces of egg shell. VERY appetizing. I considered perhaps it was very busy that night, then remembered it was 5:30 when I picked up my food from a completely empty restaurant. I guess I can admit the side of brown rice was the highlight of the meal.
