What happened to Bedside Manner and Professionalism? 9/4/2007

Dr. Vanessa Biggs of Atlanta Women's Ob/Gyn delivered our first child this past weekend, and our experience with her was unpleasant at best. I gave the overall practice three stars, but Dr. Biggs deserves ONE star only. While Dr. Biggs performed competently, her lack of professionalism and bedside manners was appalling!\r \r The FIRST thing she said to my wife (who was trying for a natural birth) upon arriving was, ""You can't make it without an epidural!"" My wife had already made it to 8cm+ dilation without medication at that point , so it's not as though she was still at the beginning of labor. Dr. Biggs also mandated that my wife stay in bed at all times, making her labor much more difficult.\r \r If Dr Biggs sincerely believed what she said, she still could have used more encouraging words. Dr. Biggs followed up her initial comment by accused me of putting my wife up to this, when a natural birth was my wife's own desire (as stated in her birth plan) from the beginning!\r \r After the delivery (which ended up as a c-section after Dr. Biggs pushed the issue), Dr. Biggs never visited or contacted my wife to follow up, nor did anyone from her practice.\r \r You can find plenty of physicians of every specialty that possess both the knowledge AND the bedside manner to take care of their patients effectively. It's unfortunate that Dr. Biggs is not among them. Pros: Seemed knowledgable Cons: No bedside manner, unprofessional in interactions with patient, autocratic more
