DVD's At A Great Price, service is based on personality of individual clerk! 9/5/2007

There was a time when one could rent or buy a used movie on VHS or Beta (remember those) for less than it would cost new. Of course, you were at the mercy of who had the tape last. Some VCR's were known to munch up or stretch tape - and another problem is because there was the friction caused by playback heads, the quality of the tape would deteriorate over time. Still, it was the only game in town, and we were willing to shell out the bucks for the luxury of owning a new or used copy. For myself, in the tape days, I stuck with new copies - having worked in broadcasting, I knew what can happen when tapes go bad - especially in cassette housings. DVD was and is a different story - its a plain plastic disk with foil sandwiched inside. A stylus or tape head does not touch it, and it doesn't come with workings that can wreak the media. A small spill, stain or finger print is no problem, washing off with a moist cloth will generally bring it back to "like-new" performance. So when I heard about the CD/Game Exchange I really wanted to see what they had and its quality. First, most of the DVD's they carry are in "widescreen" versions - this is important, since with the advent of HDTV Widescreen, the orginal aspect of a movie can be seen in its original glory. There are many shops that are overloaded with 4:3 standard versions that rely on "pan and scan" methods where one loses part of the theater experience. Avoid them. The quality (and I've purchased quite a few of my DVD's from them) has always been good. The disks are on shelves behind locked "see-thru" lexan sliding panels in their regular packaging - rather than behind a counter in a stack or file box where they can be easily scratched. The people at CD/Game Exchange are actually pretty good in helping one find the movies, cd's or games one has an interest in - and they allow you to examine the disk before you buy it! Would I recommend CD/Game Exchange? With two thumbs up and a big yes! -Andrew, MALL727net - Pros: Varied Selection Of DVD's In Widescreen and Great Prices... Cons: Really None, They are Used DVD's, not much can go wrong with them... more
