Avoid Alexander & Bishop properties 7/31/2007

My roommate and I lived in Concord Place (which is also owned by Alexander & Bishop) and then transfered to River Place to get away from the college crowd. When we did so, we were expecting a partial refund on our security deposit, as the River Place deposit was much lower than Concord's. However, the property manager said that we caused more than $300 worth of damage to the walls by filling nail holes from hanging pictures. She also refused to replace the carpet in our new unit at River Place even thought it was obviously stained with several large grease spots. She finally allowed us to buy area rugs and deduct the cost from our rent (how generous). We asked that the appliances be replaced, as they were twenty years old and cracked in places. She replaced them ... with appliances that were also twenty years old. After we raised objections, she brought in brand new appliances. While there is a pool, the management allows staff members to use it. That means the housekeeper brought 13 members of her extended family one afternoon and one of her children asked a resident if she had a pool pass. The resident didn't know she needed one, as the management neglected to inform her she needed one. The housekeeper decided to make things difficult and told the manager all types of accusations against the residents who were using the pool at that time. This lead the manager to write notices against those residents, without verifying what the housekeeper said, and making strikes against their resident record (three strikes and you're evicted). This manager has no clue how to run an apartment complex and trades in lies and deception. Pros: View of river, quiet area Cons: Management, management, management more
