Amazing rustic Italian cuisine, with tons of celebrity sightings

Tuesday, June 19, 2007
I went here on a double-date on Friday night and thankfully we knew to make reservations in advance. I love Bond Street restaurants and all the other restos in this neighborhood but I could be biased because I live in the area, though. Regardless, when we got to Buco (20 minutes late but they were still willing to get us our table if we waited at the bar). In those 10 minutes that we waited at the front bar while they prepared our table, I noticed I was standing right next to Sophia Coppola. To make this new-New-Yorker even happier, when we sat down they seated us next to Ron Livingston (from Office Space and S*x & The City season 5 fame). I really like how they push people together on long wooden tables. So even though we were three groups seated at one table, there was enough space and centerpieces to break-up the groups at this one long table. The meal was excellent. this place is not like a typial Italian tourist trap in the least. I felt like I was back in Tuscany in a tiny village neighborhood eatery. I highly recommend any pasta dish on the menu, we had the taglioni which was amazing. Seafood was fresh, service was attentive and non-obtrusive. Dessert was delicious too, but not the high-light of the meal. Everyone in the place seemed to be relaxed enjoying their meal on a Friday night. Too bad my adorable boyfriend couldn't get off work to join us. I guess I'll have to go back so he can know what the hell I'm talking about... or maybe it's just an excuse to go back ;) Pros: Celebrity sightings (sigh), rustic italian food, intimate ambiance Cons: can get loud, lots of people packed into tight space, some of the desserts were nothing special
