I spent hours and hours in my dad's shop as a kid so I tend to be really conservative in the recommendations I give regarding mechanics. But since I usually don't have the time or space to work on my truck, I've been dozens of shops all over the states (I travel quite a bit). So with that in mind, the guys at Funk-a-Motive are worth the effort of finding. There's no appointment necessary and they could easily charge 2-3 times more and not lose business. Last time I lived in Austin the older brother owned and ran the shop but now it's turned over to the younger brother--they both are huge in customer education and prevention. They can fix just about anything--and won't charge you if they can't fix it (which I can't imagine but I assume it's possible). They do exceptional work, it's really inexpensive, and they're great educators.
Pros: fantastic service, knowledgable, honest, open to questions
Cons: tiny shop that's easy to miss
