Vietnamese At Its Finest 5/19/2007

This is the exact same restuarant as ""Taste of Asia."" The Vietnamese food here is outstanding. I'm a regular to this place. The Summer Rolls are to die for--a must-have appetizer. They're not fried like the Spring Rolls, which is good for the health conscious, but they don't skimp on the flavor at all. Mix one spoon chili paste and 2-3 spoons of the brown sauce the bowl of chopped peanuts for the dipping sauce. I highly recommend the soups, particularly Pho Ga (pronounced Fuh (like in foot) Gah (like in gash)). The soups are accompanied by a plate of thai basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, lemon wedges, and sliced jalepenos. Add the extras as you desire while the soup is hot, so it can absorb the flavors. The thai basil, bean sprouts, and lemon juice are a must. Ask for the fish sauce to add to the soup, it's also great. I also highly recommend the Chicken Lemon Grass with steamed rice. While the menu claims it's spicy, it really isn't. If you want it spicy, ask for extra spicy from your waiter. It combines sweet, salty, spicy, and lemony fragrance with garlic to make a truly Vietnamese dish. I like to top the rice with a drizzle of fish sauce, instead of soy sauce.\r Now for the negatives: If you're going during lunch time (the restaurant closes at 3:00 PM, and re-opens for dinner, on weekdays), avoid the extra-cost spring roll option with your lunch plate. It is very greasy, to the point where it's difficult to eat. None of the soups are worth much with the lunch plates. The hot and sour soup should be re-named ""sweet and boring soup,"" and the egg drop is bland. I have never tried the wonton soup, which costs extra. \r If you are looking for Chinese, there is also a pretty good, although typical, Chinese menu. My favorite is the Chicken Garlic Sauce. If you want any of the spicy dishes to actually be spicy, you must ask for extra spicy as well. The Chinese is competent, but I tend to stick with the Vietnamese, since it's a Vietnamese restaurant. Pros: Great Authentic Vietnamese, Good Menu, Excellent Value Cons: Hot & Sour/Egg Drop Soup, Greasy Spring Rolls more
