I recently moved to the Sac area, and went to Park Place (they were picked from my HMO list) for a regular cleaning/checkup. They told me I had early stages of gum disease (1-3 5mm pockets on 4 of my teeth. dentists measure 6 pockets per tooth). They said I'd need: root scale/planing (what they call "deep cleaning") on my teeth. they could NOT do the 'normal' cleaning. They said they'd have to irrigate each tooth with an antibacterial, then place a slow?release antibiotic, called Arestin in my 4 teeth. Having NEVER had dental issues, and always had good dental reports previously, I was worried NOT to have the treatment, but concerned they were going a bit overboard, esp as the dentist clearly was not happy with my asking questions.\r
Called my old dentist, who stated that 1. their treatment plan of root planing/scaling for 5mm pockets was reasonable, if indeed my gums measured 5mm (I'll be getting a second opinion to see if my gums really are 5mm, will keep you posted). 2. the
