Wonder-filled place to relax and enjoy 10/11/2007

Go see the two baby elephants; they are so cute. (Get a map when you enter the park and walk to the "elephant outlook." Arrive early (9am) to see them up close.) The babies are Khosi, born September 11, 2006, and her half brother, Punga, born March 11, 2007. Two more babies are due this fall. The baby elephants are part of a program to help the Swaziland's Big Game Parks. Our male and six girls were flown here in August 2003. Web cam link: www.sandiegozoo... The park elephants eat about 125 pounds of food each day (hay, herbivore pellets) and drink about 30 gallons of water. Elephants use their trunks to drink but the water doesn't go all the way up the trunk like a straw. Instead, they draw water part way up the trunk, curl it toward their mouth, tilts their head up, and lets the water pour in. Other things to do besides the elephants: - tram ride called "Journey into Africa Tour" - Lion Camp (you and the lions are inches apart separated only by a pane of glass) - Nairobi Village (25 cents buys a hand full of duck food - great fun) - Condor Ridge (a short walk just past the elephants) - Lorikeet Landing (beautiful birds landing on you - happy) Pros: Open air, friendly, great for families Cons: Short drive from town but worth the trip every time more
