This is the school that you see in movies. Racial prejudices and personal biases rule overall. As a student, I noticed that help was not readily available. Whenever a student had a problem, the principles were quicker to turn the student away than to help. The principles all play on biases. If the principles have an average caucasian child come into the office requesting anything, and I mean ANYTHING (assistance with schooling, records, and, in my case, to take needed medication, insulin for type 1 diabetes) 90% of the time the student would be turned away.\r

Another thing is that McGavock is way behind on schooling. I originally started school in Texas and had just finished 7th grade when I moved to Tennessee. What I found was that I was learning things in 10th grade at McGavock that I had learned in the 6th grade in Texas.
