Good cakes but the worst service 10/21/2006

Four of us went last week, and while the cakes were good (although overpriced) the service was very poor not to mention slow.\r I took a group of 14 late Sunday afternoon after the orchestra. I called ahead to alert them and to be sure the place wasn't crowded. The girl on the phone was hesitant and seemed not to want us. We went anyway. First, even though there were only two other people in the place, they would not let us put tables together, which would have been very easy right along the front bench. So, ten sat near each other, but not ""together"" Four others sat by themselves.\r Of course, for those new to the place, they wanted to look at the pastries in the counter. We were told to please take our seats! Then, since two people were still parking, the waitress did not want to start taking orders. I suggested it might be a good idea to get started considering we were 14. Finally she began. - BUT - only for the coffee. Then, only after the coffee was served did she decide to take the cake orders. - We are now passing a half hour. At great length the cakes arrived - OVER AN HOUR after we sat down. In the meantime, only two other folks came in for take away. A man also just seemed to walk around with a broom and not doing much else. \r Do the owners of this place know who staffs it? The girl was generally polite but far beyond slow and very demanding. \r Who is the server and who is the costomer?\r I doubt I'll go there again - but where else is there in Philadelphia for a nice cake and coffee? Pros: nice cakes and pasteries - the only game in town Cons: service, price more
