Great Bookstore with Lots of Character by Carla T. at InsiderPages

If you're looking for a place (that isn't Borders or Barnes & Noble) where you can hang out for hours and try books out before you decide to actually buy them, this is the place to go. Boulder Book Store is an institution in Boulder. It's certainly cramped, but its vertical space leaves lots of room for roaming the many rooms and perusing their sizable used book inventory (used books are shelved alongside new books, so you can make your best choice on the shelves without having to go seeking in a separate section). The service is friendly, and their book talks with local and touring authors is fun (though the popular ones can get very crowded, so arrive early to get a seat).
PROS: large selection, will order things that aren't in stock
CONS: can get crowded
