I'm from California, married to a Chicano, and have been around people who cook great Mexican food all of my life. Since we have moved here we've been to a couple of ""traditional"" Mexican food restaurants and have found them to be lacking. If I want American-ized Mexican food I might as well go to Taco Bell or Chevys. But Pepitas was different. No one concentrated on making the food pretty, only good. No good, wonderful.
My husband and I ordered a shrimp cocktail and a combination plate with taquitos and flautas. The shrimp cocktail so good! It had enormous shrimp and cilantro and avocado in it and the taste was perfect. The flautas and taquitos were perfect as well. The beans weren't horribly watered down and bland, but had a great consistency and very flavorful. The rice was also very delicious.
We finally found our perfect Mexican restaurant!
Pros: Everything!
Cons: Nothing!
