Independently owned book shops are rare these days, but Boulder Book Store is one of the best. Great selection, though it might take you a while to find exactly what you need (the store is a little bit of a maze to navigate). I also love their free gift wrapping and wide variety of wrapping paper at the holidays. If I'm just browsing, I usually head downstairs where it's quieter and there are some cool science and home design books to explore. The attached coffee shop is always crowded, and the coffee isn't the best in town. But if you can score a table, it's a great place to people watch (the store's right on the Pearl Street Mall) or read.
