What is Middle of the Road?

Monday, September 27, 2004
Let's name the heavy hitters: Dahlia Lounge's fried doughnut holes with cream. Etta's whole Tilapia Palace Kitchen's Burger to end all burgers. Lola? Depsite trying (5 dishes later) we could not seem to find the signature dish that exemplifies the over-the-top, way-too-busy, chicken-as-dry-as-a-bone, Lola. Lola, in theory, is a great idea. The "newly resplendent" Hotel Andra is worth a visit and having a Tom Douglas restaurant should up the ante quite a bit. But the food/decor/service is disappointing. Although, I do have to admit that the hosting and service at the various mogul's restaurants has improved of late. This is middle of the road Tom Douglas food. Furthermore, there are too many extraordinary eateries in Seattle that it should fall under the radar once the buzz dies down. BTW: don't go for breakfast. Pros: small plates, strange wine list, belltown location Cons: , loud room, belltown location
