There are a lot of really nice bars in New York City. There are a good number of bars that will make good tasting classic cocktails. There are many bars that have some sort of dress code. But almost all high-end bars that have a dress code will:
a) Know the difference between nice, casual shoes and sneakers.
b) If they really feel that you have violated the dress code, find a way to let you know without making you feel like an ass.
b) Serve you anyway regardless of your dress, as long as your behavior is appropriate, and your money is good.
The drinks are decent, but they are certainly not the best place to get drinks in the city. They certainly don't merit the kind of pretension that this bar exudes.
