If you go to Monterey or Carmel and do not take this drive -- well, its like going to Universal and not taking the backlot tour. Just plain dumb! You'll see scenes you'll recognize and most which will take your breath away. Seals, Otters and Deer are entertaining and you'll pass four world famous golf courses. There's a sandwich shop at the north entrance of the drive - get a bag packed and stop along the drive for an ocean view lunch. Take binoculars and go on a clear day. The $8 per car charge to drive through is so worth it!
