Fototeka is an eastside gallery celebrating the art of photography, and its the exhibits are usually wonderful. The highpoint of the venue's short history was probably when Don Normarck showed his old photos of the Chavez Ravine community before Dodger Stadium uprooted it -- amazing work.
Opening nights are fun. Located on ""gallery row"" in Echo Park, the handful of neighboring art spaces coordinate the openings of their new shoes. It's usually the first Saturday of every month, and they're free! It's a great way to get cultured and to meet cool new people.
Pros: fun opening nights
Cons: parking
