This is as close as New York City gets to an organic public gathering space. Adjacent to NYU's facilities, Washington Square Park attracts more than undergraduates and tourists to its rickety benches and competitive chess matches. During summers past, I've enjoyed catching Gorilla Rep's annual production of ""A Midsummer Night's Dream"" and the various acrobatic acts that take place in and around the fountain. (Take note: This may be Gorilla Rep's last year!) The street vendor booksellers who set up tables within a stone's throw often have great buys on classics and pulp. One student's cast-off is my next bit of self-education.
