Hodgson's Pharmacy is an old-fashioned, small-town, family-owned pharmacy just outside of the University of Georgia campus. Hodgson's has fantastic customer service, great prices, but is best known for its soda fountain featuring 50c ice cream cones, with each additional scoop just 50c. These are HUGE cones, and filled with yummy Edy's ice cream! I couldn't even finish my double scoop!

Hodgson's Pharmacy is an old-fashioned, small-town, family-owned pharmacy just outside of the University of Georgia campus. Hodgson's has fantastic customer service, great prices, but is best known for its soda fountain featuring 50c ice cream cones, with each additional scoop just 50c. I live in DC, and needed a bridesmaid dress altered for my best friend's wedding in Orlando... Sew and Tell altered my dress just THREE DAYS before the wedding (they came highly recommended by friends), she did an absolutely amazing job -- and even with the rush job, it cost less than HALF of what the bridal shop estimated. And, if I went with the bridal shop, I would have had to have had the dress shipped out to DC and had altered done here, or have made an extra trip to Orlando -- as they required at least three weeks to get the job done. I can't recommend Sew and Tell highly enough!!!!

Five Oaks is a wonderful antique shop located in Del Ray, featuring a wide variety of dealers. Many fabulous finds – from stained glass windows to furniture to china to linens and too many other things to name. Also be sure to visit Potomac West Antiques (at the other end of Mt. Vernon Avenue, less than a mile away) – another fabulous shop.

We needed to have our air conditioning unit moved to expand our deck… I priced a few local companies, and A&R was below competitors. Communication was extremely poor in this office… I was at my home at our scheduled appointment time, and no one showed up AT ALL that day – no call, no nothing. They did reschedule us quickly – but I still missed another half day of work. They got the job done, and at a good price, but it was really a headache!

I love love love Eclectic Nature! Outdoors is a fabulous garden shop – featuring plants, flowers, and garden accessories. Indoors is the cutest gift shop – each room has a theme: baby, bridal, kitchen, bath, etc. and is very carefully decorated to show off the great finds. The staff (both inside the shop and outside in the garden) is very knowledgeable and helpful – and they’ve done an amazing job on landscaping, and added a wonderful mural to Mt. Vernon Avenue!

Even though it’s very close to Catholic University and the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, it’s easy to miss the Franciscan Monastery; tucked away on a side street. However, it’s SO worth the trip – the monastery grounds have replicas of the Holy Land sites and the catacombs (the only in the United States); the church is gorgeous, and gardens are beautiful. An absolutely amazing place to pray!

We LOVE Evening Star -- the food is amazing... be sure to try the beef tenderloin on a bed of cheddar mashed potatoes and topped with onion crisps. YUM! They also have a great, very reasonably-priced Sunday brunch. In the back room, The Majestic Lounge is a great, casual place to have a drink (and play a board game). Upstairs is the No. 9 Lounge, a chic wine bar with plenty of couches and chaise lounges for great wine & great conversation. And don’t forget to visit their wine & gourmet shop next door – The Daily Planet… they have a fantastic selection of wine, and a modest selection of really, really good beer!

Del Ray’s newest restaurant is also one of its best! Los Tios has fantastic, and very authentic, Tex-Mex and Salvadorian food, some of the best margaritas in town, and the service is as wonderful as their food! The staff is the best – and goes way above the call of duty in accommodating children! Their new outdoor patio is also perfect for summer dining.
