It's really nice to have a small local donut shop back in town. Honey Dew and Dunkin' Donuts are good but you don't always get the atmosphere as you do when you sip your coffee in a nice little non-chain establishment. Here there are a variety of donuts, muffins and croisants. My favorite is a Snickers donut ( a chocolate frosted donut with crushed snickers candy).

Percy's Place has been around for many years serving breakfast and lunch. The breakfast menu is the largest I have ever seen. They offer many old New England breakfast favorites such as corn bread, baked beans and catfish. The prices are higher than average but you do get hearty portions. In the winter a hearty fire in the fireplace makes for a cozy meal.

This restaurant is located on Rte. 28 (exit 3 off 495)... Many years ago it was called Ben Howes' Chicken House and was a prime eating stop for weary Cape Travelers. I lived nearby and when I would pass the place the smell of fried chicken would waft into my car! Its gone through several owners since then but they have kept a lot of the charm that made the place popular. The last and current owners have eliminated the all-you-can-eat aspect but they still offer a senior option that includes beverage entree and select dessert. A must stop if you are passing by!

Peaceful Meadows is a good ice cream place in the summer. It has over 20 flavors and make delicious frappes. It is not Ben & Jerry's but will hit the spot on a hot day! Flavors include the usual plus some specialties such as M+M and Peppermint Patty. The building can't be missed it is painted in black and white cow spots!

Hilliard's House of Candy is a chocolate extravaganza! I was there last at Easter-time and I never saw candy molded and decorated into so many different forms! In the summertime they also serve premium ice cream. It is a bit expensive but then all delicious chocolate is! They also have a lot of non-chocolate candies as well. At Easter my favorite was the chocolate bunny ears on a stick! (My mom always ate the ears on MY rabbits!)

Daily specials often feature typical New England fare. The decor is lodge style- aptly fitting since the building facade really is a small cabin!

While it may be cheaper to book vacations via the internet you have no recourse if something goes wrong... nor do you get personal help with problems. My best trip booked with them was to the Canadian Rockies. Country Travel really knows the vacation business!
