If you are a gamer, then Nickel Nickel is a great place to visit. It costs around four dollars to get in, but then once you are in, everything takes only nickels. They have a whole section of games that are free, but the majority of them cost two nickels to play. The place is not well kept however, so that is a definite downside to the place. Some of the games don't work, and others are just plain dirty from not being cleaned. Otherwise, it can be a really cheap night of gaming for you if you are into a few hours of fun. Definitely recommended to the casual gamer or someone who likes to spend minimal amounts for video games.

The College Barbershop couldn't be a better location. It's right across the street from Chapman University, so you can always find a lot of student clientele getting their hair cut here. It's a really small shop...it's connected to what I believe is the guy's house. There are only a few chairs to accommodate the customers. The one thing I didn't like was that the place seems to be closed quite often. I'd go by there often, and I often saw a sign saying that the barber was on vacation. So that was a bit of a bummer, and what led me to try the barber college down the street. Otherwise it's a cool little barbershop that is recommended by me.

Universal Studios Hollywood is a little less desirable than the one in Florida, mainly because they don't have all the same rides. What's missing are some good speed rides...they have the Mummy roller coaster and Jurassic Park, but not much else when it comes to thrill rides. If you are into the live shows and slower ride attractions, then you will have a ball at Universal. In my opinion though, it doesn't hold a candle to Knott's or Disneyland. It's cool to see the behind the scenes stuff and how they make various movies, but don't plan on spending more than one day doing that. Universal quickly grows boring as more of the same just seems to be the norm there. To further the problem is that they got rid of Universal Horror Nights about five years ago, which was the best thing about Universal (you can now only see that in Florida). If they added that back, that would be reason enough to check out Universal at least once a year.

The clientele is of the agreeable type...not too many gansters the last time I visited the Brea Mall. They have all of the typical shops you would expect from a Mall. It's a really clean mall and the landscape is well maintained.
The only problem is that the place is always busy...which can be a bit of an annoyance. It's sometimes hard to get out of the mall parking lot with all of the cars, but that is a minor quibble. Expect to find some more higher end stores because Brea is more of a rich area than most. Highly recommended.

This place was a lifesaver. I had received borderline 3rd degree sunburn one sunny day and had to go to the emergency room a couple of days later because my leg was turning colors. Being in Southern California, I figured a trip to the emergency room was going to be a day-long process. It was not the case at St. Joseph's. I did have to wait about an hour, but after filling out the paperwork I was shown to the doctor, who quickly looked me over and got me out with little to no pain. The trip was a little expensive, but going to the E.R. is almost always going to cost some money no matter how little the problem may be. It's not the best hospital I have been in, but it's a lot better than what I was expecting.

Linbrook Bowl is a great place to take the family for a night of bowling. They seem to be open all the time, so that is a great plus. One thing I always hate about some alleys is that they are always filled with league bowlers so you can't just come off the street and bowl. I never had that problem with Linbrook. They're prices are reasonable, so it is definitely a nice night out if money is an issue. The actual area that it is located at is kind of scary, so avoid walking around except for in the parking lot. Otherwise, it's a great place to bowl...highly recommended.

Five Points Sports Cards has a great selection of different sports cards for varying prices. Most of their cards are newer...it would have been nice to see some of the older baseball and basketball cards that are out there, but that is a minor quibble. It is located right off of Tustin Ave., which is a pretty busy area, so it can be hard to spot at first. Whether it is baseball, basketball, football, or hockey cards, Five Points Sports Cards usually has a great selection of the latest cards. It's just disappointing to see how much cards are now compared to ten years ago! Recommended for the regular collector.

This place is a great place to rent hard to find DVDs and VHS. I on;y rented from here a few times, but they seem to have a lot of the cult films that I have a hard time finding at Blockbuster or Hollywood Video. The place seems a little run down and old, but the selection more than makes up for it. It's not for kids, because usually when I go in there they have some rated R violent movie playing on the big screen TV that could really offend some people...so it's not for everyone. Otherwise I would highly recommend checking this place out!

Growing up in Davenport, IA, there weren't too many options for getting a hair cut. For five or six years my parents took us to the Village Barber. The staple there is, of course, Shaky Mike, who's hands shake when he cuts your hair. Now he almost cut my hair and I was fine with the result for quite some time, until I started looking at some of my pictures...my hairline was always crooked! I always felt bad because I didn't want to say anything because I didn't know what caused the shaking and didn't want him to know that I had a problem. So I did what anyone would do and just went to a different barber. The other people there were really good though, so I can recommend it on that alone. I just wonder if the legend of Shaky Mike lives on.

When I was attending Chapman, this is where I always went to get my haircut...until someone messed it up...bad! The main reason I went was because it was pretty cheap...it's a barber college so that's why the price is so low. I had really good experiences here until that fateful day. The person cutting my hair was new, so that was a problem right there. I should have known something was up when the lady took the clippers and just started shaving. I asked for a trim and she's shaving all my hair off! They did give me back my money, so that was nice of them, and I didn't need another haircut for another three months, so that was nice. Otherwise it was a decent place to go. Just be careful who cuts your hair!
