The Iowa City Community theater is the area’s theater group that welcomes persons of all talents and abilities. They are an open group that produced, directs and performs many different types of theatrical shows each year with no paid staff to speak of. Though they are far from “professional” in the paid sense of the word, you cannot tell it in the sense of talent for talent is not in short supply with this group! This group has performed many genre’s of theatrical works from musicals to tragedies, to comedies. .From regular stage productions to “theater in the round”, this group offers something for every taste and at a very reasonable ticket price as well. It is perfect in virtually every sense of the word, though, since the theater space is somewhat limited, I would suggest reserving your tickets early as shows are often sold out quickly.

The Johnson County Fairgrounds (at lest that's what we've always called it-it's proper name is Montgomery Hall fairgrounds) located just south of Iowa City on Old Hwy 218. It is a staple in the way of not only your typical livestock and county fair offerings but it also is a home for the Iowa City Community theater as well. Having enjoyed many of the community theaters shows in the past (that is another review) this fairgrounds definitely covers all the bases throughout the year and is seldom quiet. It also houses annual quilt shows, group events and of course the requisite pancake breakfasts, which I must mention here are WONDERFUL and not to be missed! And I can't forget the annual Johnson County fair. Each summer this fairgrounds is buzzing with livestock, exhibits and even a little bit of carnival! It is an adventure for kids and grown ups alike who might never get to see farm animals, or those who might like to relive their small town roots. Whatever the case may be, it is a venue worth checking out.... I think you’re going to enjoy the “down home” feel in the midst of a busy city…I know we do!

Though I have used this library only a few times, every time I have visited, I have been both impressed and somewhat awed at the complex workings within. Not only do they have books and other research items available but they offer a meeting place for varied and sundry groups in the area. They host a number of “story hours” for youngsters and directly influence and encourage a love of reading at an early age…an ongoing project of the library and literary groups in the area.
And not to worry, this library is busy at all times of the day with story hours, public meetings, group gatherings and more...it is always busy here!!!
A recent addition to the facility has opened up even more avenues of opportunity for this library and the community I would highly suggest you visit this facility and take the tour…get a library card and reap the benefits of a library that offers so much more than books! Happy reading!

Being a Coralville resident for over 15 years now, I have found myself on more than one occasion using this library. As my kids have grown up they have joined summer reading groups, been to “story hours” and been active in teen reads and other activities offered by the library. The selection is really nice here….the staff keeps abreast of the newest of books. The shelves are heat, clean and full of many copies of the most favorites of every reading age and one of my personal favorites…the Iowa Suggested reading list books are available on a year long basis and are kept on a separate shelf for the young readers to find and enjoy. In combination with the local schools, the library encourages readers of all levels and offers incentives and encouragement as well.
They are in the midst of great re-modeling/addition building project at this time (November 2005) so parking is not as available as usual but I encourage you to be patient. The new addition is going to be wonderful and will offer so much more for the ever growing community that it is in fact worth the inconvenience now, for the vast offerings in the near future.
Check out this library and get one of their little “coral” colored cards…and let the reading adventure begin!

In the Summer of 1993, a torrential flood overcame this area of the midwest. Finally the spillway at the Coralville Dam (which had never been utilized up until this point), overflowed exposing fossils over 300 millions years old.
It is an interesting place to visit and one full of history, check out the following links if you would like further information on the gorge.

Located next to PETLAND near Sycamore Mall, this is one eating establishment that has not only a spacious interior, great food, friendly wait-staff and nice atmosphere as well. When we first visited this eating establishment we sere struck right away at how "kid friendly" the staff was here, actually welcoming our kids and taking time to chat with them while we were there. For all you parents out there realize, if the kids are happy, then everyone is happy and a good dining experience is to be had...such is the situation here! It is the type of place that you can go to for a quiet night out, a family meal together or a special occasion. Okoboji does it all and with decent prices to boot….as far as my family is concerned, anything that doesn’t require a second mortgage on the house to enjoy, it tops in our book! Check it out…..and come on back here to let us know what YOU think…….we’d all like to know! Happy eating!!!!
