Having our pharmacy somewhat pulled out from under us a few years ago, we happened upon WALGREENS PHARMACY and have been pleased with the service and quality ever since. Not only do the pharmacists there know and understand your needs but they take the time to talk to you about your prescription, work with you in understanding insurance offerings and actually show compassion for their customers…something that is rare in this day and age of bad customer service! In addition to great in-store service is their drive-up pharmacy, for any mother (or father for that matter) can attest to the importance of not having to take a sick child out of a car into a pharmacy to obtain meds…..the drive-up takes away one worry when a child is ill and that is priceless. We all know how important it is not to expose others to a sick child and WALGREEN'S obviously does too...their drive-up pharmacy makes life so much easier with a sick child...and to this Mom, that means everything!

When I first moved to the area I was fortunate enough to get in on the ground floor of the new fitness center in town….NEW LIFE FITNESS WORLD. Since that day, over 15 years ago, New Life has offered not only fitness training, but racquetball courts, aerobics, personal trainers, steam and dry saunas and a great pool for water aerobics and just plain water fitness. With a juice bar and child care, it is both well rounded and practical to boot! Though you are required to sign a "contract" and the pricing is far from cheap, NEW LIFE is a fitness center that delivers on its promise of better fitness. It is a fitness center that takes to heart its dedication to the promotion of fitness in the area and satisfied customers who opened the doors those many years ago are now ushering in another generation of fitness devotee’s….a testament to the dedication and professional demeanor within its walls.

Located on 2nd Street in Coralville, F.I.T. for Women offers fitness, training and instruction for women of all levels and abilities. When I visited the facility I saw women who were obviously just starting their regimes and others who were “old pro’s” working side by side, urging and supporting each other in their endeavors for better fitness and health. In this world of male oriented fitness it is certainly nice to see a center that focus’ on the special needs of women and helps them in a positive way to achieve their goals. With Child sitting available Monday through Friday it offers extras for those stay-at-home Mom’s who need fitness in their lives. Give them a try….I think they might be just what you are looking for!

Within it’s walls you will find equipment and various products designed with women in mind, , Aerobic ans strength training, numerous weight management techniques taught proper warm-up, cool down for maximum effectiveness, productive 30-Minute Workouts, various stretching exercises and much more. It is by far one of the most complete fitness centers of its kind and one that is sure to meet many if not all of your fitness needs. This business has many plans to chose from and though you are obligated to sign an agreement, it is well worth looking into. Check it out and see if it has what you need….I think You’re going to be pleasantly surprised!

This has got to be, hands down my family’s favorite movie theater in the local area! Though it is in fact located in Coralridge mall the fact that it IS in the mall has nothing to do with our preference. (I must admit though, it is fun to watch the nearby ice rink before or after seeing a movie! ) What DOES have to do with the fact that we prefer this theatre, is the vast offerings each and every week, the spacious seating (though small in number, large in personal space), the variety of “goodies” offered in the snack bar and the friendly staff. This is one of the quietest theatres I think I have ever visited. It is a hit on our list…a real “thumbs up”…give it a try and see if you agree with me that this is one of the best theatres around! <>
NOTE:
I think it is only fair to report to the reader that a couple of days ago, our family decided to go to the 4:30 showing of Harry Potter. All went well until we walked into the theatre and took our seats. Not only was the theate filthy, having not been cleaned since the last show but we found some sort of wine cooler/hard lemonade bottles under the seats. I pointed this out to the manager but he seemed a bit "put out" by my complaint. Now, I must lower my review score of this theatre because I am now concerned about the influences my pre-teen son might be up against should be go to the movies alone. As always...this is just one woman's opinion......use it or not as you see fit!

This is an interesting art gallery that offers to the public, contemporary art. The mediums used are varied and the exhibits quite vast, this gallery is a nice change from the staid art galleries...
This is an interesting art gallery that offers to the public, contemporary art. The mediums used are varied and the exhibits quite vast, this gallery is a nice change from the staid art galleries of the past that had one exhibit for years without change. The changes in fact here are a wonderful opportunity to share with persons of all backgrounds the diverse talents in the area. I especially enjoy seeing the different mediums used, some I am surprised to see, and others I see being used in ways I had not thought of. I would encourage all readers to check out the varied exhibits sponsored by this group and thank the responsible parties…because if it weren't’t for them, many artists works would not be displayed in this area in the way that they are.
Though this gallery is definely interesting, once again the parking in downtown may deter some from visiting, I know it has deterred me in the past as well.

This is a general art gallery/dealer area that keeps the community in the loop of the latest in terms of art exhibits and artists. With a wonderful website available…………….this group strives to educate and share with the community, some of the most interesting, local and regional artists around. MFA students, local artists and AIC members alike team together to offer to the public art that they might not normally be able to experience. From December 4-13,2005, an exhibit named “The Visual Language” will be available for viewing which promises to enlighten the observer and enrich ones knowledge of the many mediums available to the artist today. The Englert Civic Gallery will also have an exhibit in January of 2006 but as of this date is in unannounced…..i will update this review as information becomes available but it also easily accessible on the website.
Throughout the year, AIC is active in the community with many different exhibits and avenues in which the public can experience the many and varied forms of art avaible in the area.

Campus Theatres is just what the name implies…a small group of movie theatres located in Old Capital Mall, near the University of Iowa campus. They show first run movies at a reasonable price…the snack bar is old but well stocked, (and the popcorn is actually quite good!) and the theater seating is small but comfortable. The only problem I have with this theatre (and many others do as well) is the fact that the only decent parking is available via a parking garage that is not only costly but can be a bit on the forbidding side if used after dark. I personally do not use this theatre as much as I do another in the area simply because of this problem, however if you live adjacent to campus it would be mostly likely be perfect for you
