OK, they aren't exactly Jimmy Choo's idea of this years "must have" shoes and you certainly won't find them walking the red carpet at the Oscars BUT the shoes at Coral Lanes are perfect as they are and they get the job done!
Coral Lanes is a mainstay of Coralville...a mecca of bowling shirts, leagues and kids all coming together with one mission in mind...to have the best time possible doing something they all love......BOWLING!
Now, I must confess I am not a bowler...heck, I don't partake in very many sports at all but I have been known on the rare occasion to heft a ball and roll it with all my might which simultaneously trying NOT to sink a gutter ball or as my youngest used to call it...."an oops ball!"
If you are looking for some good old fashioned fun (batteries not needed) then this is the place for you! Most times a lane is pretty easy to get here but you might want to call ahead and check on possible league play...they can make it kinda' hard to get a lane at times. I promise if you do come to Coral Lanes..you're gonna love it....its fun...its reasonable and it has a "G" rating! PERFECT for those family outings! Have fun and stay safe!

Most of you reading this are too young to know what the 3 R's mean so for you "youngsters" out there I will enlighten you. In years past, in the days of the one room schoolhouse, the 3 R's meant, Reading (w)Riting and (a)Rithmatic. I KNOW that those words aren't spelled correctly but stay with me here folks. Here on 5th Street in Coralville, Iowa resides one of the last remaining one-room schoolhouses left in the United States. Through these doors are examples of books, desks, coal burning stoves, and even the "slates" children used to do their homework on when they attended school. To visit this museum is to experience first hand how children learned int he days before computers and "spell check". It is a wonderful example of a simpler time in which the basics were taught to the children. Though this museum is great by any standard, I wish there were more examples of actual work completed by children of this era. With the addition of such work, this museum would be virtually complete!
If you have never seen a one-room schoolhouse or even if you have, I invite you to come visit Coralville's schoolhouse and see for yourself what life was like in a simpler less hectic time and place.

I've seen this clown on many different occasions..usually from afar. I've usually seen Babaloon creating magic, making little figures and animals with balloons. Whenever Babaloon seems to be around crowds roar with delight and children squeal as they are handed the coveted wiener dogs and giraffes. Even though Babaloon is a little bit cheesy and somewhat moth ridden, the appeal is still there.
Now confession time....some of you noticed that I mentioned I've only seen Babaloon "from afar" and others in the know recognize "coulrophobic" ..(or perhaps you are one of the few who ran for their dictionaries..). Whatever the case may be...my secret is out....I have a phobia about clowns. SO if I say Babaloon in all his worn out, somewhat seedy glory is funny, then he IS!
Check him out...who knows, you may be one of the lucky ones to get a cute little puppy or maybe one of those goofy hats with the loops on top. Whatever your prize may be...Babaloon is sure to bring a smile to the hardened of faces!

I come from a small town and have grown up appreciating small town products and services so when I chanced upon this business I was pleasantly surprised! Not only does it have a nice array of articles for sale but they are reasonably priced as well....PLUS they really are the kind of items you would not only buy for another as a gift but for yourself as well.
Being a small store, the wares offered change frequently so I would encourage any and all who have visited in the past to venture to West Branch and check them out again...there is certain to be something new there that you just "can't live without!" LOL Let me know if you do find something neat too...I'm always on the lookout for nice "homey" items for family and friends...happy shopping!

The following review is no longer valid simply because the business is no longer there! Nonalee G. frought to my attention ( and I have since verified) that the business is in fact "out of business" with another business being created as I write this post. I will endeavor to rate the new business when it opens it's door but for now I regretfully rate this business as "poor" because it is no more! :-(
If someone wold have told me 20 years ago that I would have passed the time in an otherwise black room, surrounded by day glo decorations while trying to put a little white ball into a cup the size of the ones pills come in in hospitals I would have booked them a room at the nearest "funny farm" and if the would have added that I would actually had FUN whilst there...I would have asked them what illegal substance they had recently partaken of.
BUT times change and apparently so did I. For when my boys asked me awhile ago to take them to Lunar Golf I readily agreed. I mean come on, what's so hard about hitting a little white ball into a cup? This can't be took hard....the course is short (unlike some of the mountainous ranges some of my golf fanatic friends partake of) and the best part....because it IS so dark no one will be able to see me if I mess up!
Off we went and I must say that an hour later we were not only finished but we were laughing as well! For not only is this NOT as easy as it sounds, (try to hit that crazy ball into the cup with limited vision due to the tears of laughter rolling down your face!) it is a hoot to see others mess up as badly as you do...and not care one little bit!
The next time you are in Coralridge mall, head for the west end by Barnes and Noble and Express. There you will find Lunar Golf with its black and day glo color scheme it would drive Paris Hilton running screaming into the streets, but for us...it's just an afternoon of simple fun.
Try it yourself...I think you're going to like it as much as we do!
