If you are headed to Catalina and don't have your own boat then Catalina Express is a great option. With boats running from San Pedro, Long Beach and Dana Point to Avalon or Two Harbors many times each day you have a lot of options. The boats are very comfortable and efficient with food/drink service. Reservations are recommended since they often sell out.
