The Cornell Dairy Bar is where one of the places they serve the ice cream made right on the Cornell Campus. The ice cream comes in tons of different and sometimes weird flavors. They have all your standard ones like chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, but they also have a lot of unusual ones. Every year, there is a contest to see which team can come up with the best new ice cream flavor and name. The winning ice cream flavor is served at the Cornell Dairy Bar.
This is a must for every Cornell student. It's one of those things you have to do during your tenure at Cornell.

The Statler Hotel is literally located in the heart of the Cornell Campus; you step outside and you are in the middle of central campus. It is adjacent to the School of Hotel Administration and many of the "hotelies" work at the hotel.
The rooms are pretty standard and I was a bit disappointed when I saw them. I expected something a bit more luxurious, but there was certainly nothing about which to complain. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
The hotel also has a lounge and a restaurant which are quite good. The service that you get is high quality.
There are times of the year when you might be able to get a room, although during busy times like graduation and orientation, it is almost impossible.
Prices are a bit steep for what you get (about $200 a night) and unless you really need to be close, you might be better off looking for a hotel that is nearby and cheaper. Nonetheless, the Statler is a great hotel with a great location.

Hope's Way is the best place in Ithaca for cheesecake, hands down. The facility also does a bunch of other kinds of catering and also has a cafe, but the single biggest reason that I go there is to buy cheesecakes. I have tasted a lot of cheesecake, but the ones that are sold at Hope's Way put all the other ones to shame. It is a great present if you are invited somewhere for dinner and it is great if you are having a bigger event and need to serve some dessert.

The Cinemapolis is located in the Commons. It only has two screens and doesn't necessarily show mainstream pictures that you would find playing in the big multiplex's. It is a very cute theater though and you can find many treasures there. I saw "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" there and had a great time. The Cinemapolis takes you back to older movie theaters and away from the big chain theaters that you see nowadays.
I would definitely recommend checking out the movies that are playing there because you can find some very good alternative or smaller distribution movies playing that you would miss otherwise.

I saw Dr. Smith when I first came to Ithaca. I knew that I was allergic to things, but didn't quite know the extent. Dr. Smith conducted all the necessary tests and developed a serum for me to take. I started to take allergy shots and they definitely helped my symptoms subside.
Dr. Smith was always very friendly and kind. I felt very comfortable in his care.
If you are planning on continuing allergy treatments are want to be tested for them, I would consider going to Dr. Smith if he is covered by your insurance. Alternatively, Gannett also offers allergy shots although I am not sure whether they do the original tests to develop a personalized serum.

Pi Kappa Phi recently refounded the Cornell chapter. I was one of the founding fathers. We received our charter after one year and have worked really hard to build the fraternity up.
One of the biggest things that makes our chapter great is the no hazing policy. A lot of chapters might say this, but we swear by it. I wasn't hazed at all when I joined and that is something that we have passed on from year to year. We believe that you can't build a man up by breaking him down and thus are very strict about this policy.
We are also the only national fraternity with its own national philanthropy: PUSH America which helps people with disabilities. We raise money but then also use that money ourselves to help people with disabilities. We have accessibility projects to make places such as playgrounds and camps accessible to those with disabilities and also have a yearly event called the Journey of Hope where Pi Kapps from around the country ride their bikes from San Francisco to Washington DC to raise money and awareness.
While I am definitely biased because I am a member, I would encourage any students who are interested to stop by the house, either during a formal rush period or at any point to check it out and see if it is right for you.

I recently took Kaplan's test prep to study for the GMAT's. I found the Kaplan course very helpful. The classroom based course was okay, but the real advantage of Kaplan lies in their online resources. You are exposed to a ton of workshops and practice sessions that help you hone your skills and learn the tricks and traps.
I spent a lot of time studying and working at their centers and found this very helpful. Being able to sit in a quiet environment where you weren't distracted very much helps you prepare for test day.
I preferred going to the Cooper Square center because I found it more spacious and nicer. If you are taking a GMAT class in the near future, try to get Huao as a teacher. He is the one who trains their teachers and is really really good at breaking problems down and helping you see the quickest way to solve them.

The Clearview in Bergenfield is a decent theater. It doesn't compare to the big multiplex's that you can find in Edgewater and other areas, but it is good for the times you don't want to drive very far. It usually carries several of the big hits that are playing, although you might have to go to another cinema for some.
The Bergenfield theater is much better than the Tenafly one in terms of the theater size and shape. In Tenafly, the theaters are very wide but not long. You end up having to stare at the screen from weird angles. In Bergenfield, this is a little better. I like this theater more than the Tenafly one, but not as much as the Edgewater Multiplex.
Standard complaints when it comes to prices of refreshments apply as food and drinks are ridiculously overprices.

I have nothing bad to say about Costco. It is an absolutely incredible place to shop. The membership fee pays for itself after one visit. You get great deals on a ton of items. Whether you are in the market for a big screen television or vitamins, Costco has it. You get to buy in bulk, which saves you a ton of money.
You usually only have to go there once a month or even less. You can stock up on a ton of things and save yourself many visits to the store.
Not only that, but Costco is an incredible place to work. James Senegal, the CEO, is very intent on paying high wages to employees and their satisfication is very high. You see this when you are at the store and employees are always willing to help and are very friendly.

West Coast Video has become Hollywood Video, but the store is in the same location and I don't think anything has really changed except the name.
The advantage of this store over the other local store is the selection. West Coast/Hollywood has a much bigger selection, especially when it comes to new releases. You can spend a lot of time perusing all the movies finding one that you like because there are so many to look at.
Their prices are fair and they let you keep the movies for several nights. Overall, definitely a good place to go to.
