Time Warner is one of the biggest providers of cable television, digital phone, and internet services. Overall, they are pretty good. They now have packages where you can get all three although one should be wary of these. First, they sometimes aren't necessarily worth it and don't save you money. Also, statistics show that when people get two or three services from the same provider, they are much less likely to switch.
This brings me to my next point, there are a lot of other reputable companies that offer one or more of these services usually at a better price.
Final gripe with Time Warner is their appointment schedule. They will only give you a four hour window slot, nothing shorter. Even when they messed up, made a mistake, and had to come back, they refused to schedule a specific time and forced me to wait at home for another four hours.

Sam Goody is a music store. They primarily selll CD's although they also have accessories for CD-players, posters, and things of that nature. They have all the latest CD's, but, like most music stores, they charge you close to twenty dollars for a CD, which is outrageous. They have sales sometimes and if you are looking for a present, this is a good place to check out.
Since most places have the same CD's, unless there aren't any other stores in your area, I wouldn't advise going here as, again, the prices are high.

Barnard College is an all-girls school located right near Columbia University in upper-Manhattan. It is a liberal arts college and has strong ties with Columbia. Students at one school can take lots of courses at the other and they share a lot of student services.
Barnard is a much smaller school and has all the advantages that come from this fact. Like I said in the Columbia review,however, it is also in New York City which is a double-edged sword.
Barnard has a lot of unique programs that not too many other schools have. For example, they have invested a lot and grown their dance department and it is one of the better ones in the country.
My sister is applying to colleges this year and I went with her on tours including Barnard. I still haven't gotten a good answer to the question "Why Barnard and not Columbia?" I don't really see any benefit to going to Barnard and not Columbia as they share so much in common.

Columbia University obviously has a great academic reputation and consistenly makes US News and World Report's Top 20 national university's list. There are a lot of great thing about the university, some that are amazing and some that are amazing depending on your perpsective.
One thing to be aware of is that Columbia is heavily tilted towards graduate students with a 2 to 1 grad to undergrad ratio. This is something to keep in mind and does end up affecting the feel on campus.
Also, Columbia is obviously located in New York City. For some, especially those from far away, this can be seen as a boon and Columbia definitely positions itself in that light. You have all of New York City at your fingertips including all the cultural attractions, tons of amazing historic sites, and great restaurants.
However, being in the "middle" of Manhattan also detracts from the college experience. When you are on the Columbia campus, you don't feel like you are in the middle of the city, my impression was that student life is less compact and student centered than at other schools. Friends have coraborrated this and say that student life isn't campus-centered.
There are tons of advantages to attending Columbia, but it's presence in New York and student makeup can' also take away and are things to consider.

The Princeton Review provides standardized test preparation for those who are about to take the SAT as well as other standardized tests for graduate schools. Although their tutors all score really high on the tests on which they instruct, there is still considerable variation as to the quality of the instructor although this will be true of any company.
I used them to study for the SAT's. My score jumped a lot, but I'm not sure how much of that I can attribute to them. The biggest help was having the opportunity to take 3 full length standardized tests under normal testing conditions. I felt the classroom sessions helped, but weren't that informative. I'm not sure if they have recently revamped their program to take advantage of the internet and computers more, but when I took it, it was only the classroom and textbook.
Although it is an imperfect comparison, I think I would favor Kaplan over Princeton Review given the amount of preparation material and resources that were made available

Swarthmore is probably one of the best universities that most people have never heard of. I know I definitely didn't until I was applying to colleges. It is small liberal arts college located outside of Philadelphia. Swarthmore has a tons to offer. Because it is a small school, classes there are extremely tiny which means that you get a better learning experience filled with more discussion and personalized attention from professors.
The campus is gorgeous as well. Right as you get off the highway, you feel as if you are a million miles from the city. Everything is green and the building are well situated. Swarthmore's faculty is first-rate and the college is consistently ranked in the top 3 among liberal arts colleges.
For those who feel that they would benefit from a smaller school and enjoy that sort of atmosphere, this is an amazing university and one that you should definitely consider.

Stanford is absolutely one of my favorite places. I spent four years there while my father was getting his doctorate. The weather is absolutely phenomenal and the campus is gorgeous. Unlike some other schools, it is mostly flat and tons of students ride their bikes around all the time. The academics are first-rate and there isn't much more one can say about that. What is great about Stanford though is that it has managed to be a world class university and also field a plethora of competitive and championship sports teams. With the exception of Duke in basketball and a handful of other schools, Stanford is definitely in the minority of schools that are outstanding both scholastically and athletically.
In addition, Stanford is one of the most diverse campuses in the country. I remember reading statistics on how over 50% of the student body was a minority. This makes for a truly encompasses learning experience.

The Stanford University Bookstore is a wonderful store to go to for those who are on the Stanford Campus and need school supplies, computer equipment, or clothing. The selection of Stanford branded clothing is really nice and while the prices are a bit steep, it is still the best place that I've found to get good items and unique stuff. The store itself is very nicele arranged and is quite big. You can spend a lot of time in there without even noticing.
The store also sells regalia for anyone who is interested in purchasing it. This is especially good for faculty members who got their doctorates at Stanford and participate in graduation ceremonies often. The regalia is expensive, but well worth the investment.

Sweetware Market is back after getting burned down. It is a local flower shop in the Collegetown area and I would say caters mostly to the college student crowd. For those who live in the collegetown area and need flowers or chocolate, this is a very convenient place to go. If you don't have a car or are in a rush, I would suggest going here. However, if you have time and be able to choose from a larger assortment, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this store. There are several others, one on Triphammer road and Michaleen's farther out, that in my opinion are better.

The Apple Store follows the same line as all the Apple products, sleek, cool, and innovative. The store is gorgeously set up with every product that Apple has. They have all the computers and monitors and you can play around with them. They have a demo area where the staff gives explanations on how to use software and throws out tons of cool tips and tricks. One of the best areas is the "Ask the Geek" area where you can sign up and ask Apple experts questions about the products, including how to fix certain problems that you've been having.
Regardless of how you feel about Macs or iPods, this store is awesome to check and walk around in.
