This is a typical dollar store - a wide variety of products, at very low prices. Some of it is useful and you can always find something here that you need. But some of it is pure garbage, too, and falls apart the first time you use it.
But if you need something simply - salt shakers, or stationary, or something of that nature, you can't go wrong here.
The staff is very friendly and it is conveniently located near the train station.

This is a group practice, so your child will not always see the same doctor. But so far, everyone I have met in this group practice has been great.
They are patient and knowledgable, and their support staff is also kind.
Sometimes there is a wait, but they do their best to keep the sick kids away from healthy kids, and to get babies in and out quickly.
They are affiliated with nearby Winthrop Hospital, which is a great hospital for kids and babies.

This is a nice little bakery in the downtown Mineola business area. They also have some cold beverages, coffee and newspapers.
The best items here are the fresh baked goods, especially the various coffee cakes. The raspberry coffee cake in particular is especially delicious.
They also have a wide selection of cookies. The coffee is average. Service can be slow, as they often have just one or two people handling customers and when there are a few people in the store, that can increase your wait time.

Main Street Hardware in Mineol is exactly what a neighborhood hardware store should be. Of course, it is absolutely tiny when compared to Lowe's or Home Depot or anything like that. But they do have something those stores can't touch: help. I can't tell you how many times I've gone into Home Depot or Lowe's ready to buy something, if only a friendly employee could point me in the right direction, like they do in the commercials. And most times, I leave empty-handed. Main Street Hardware always has a friendly employee ready to help you find what you need. And even though the store is tiny, chances are, they have what you need. You'll never have to stand in a check-out line for 20 minutes and you'll never have to find what you need on your own - you can't put a pricetag on that. if you're in Mineola, I strongly reccomend Main Street Hardware.

Not everyone can make the trip to Disneyworld or even over to New Jersey to Six Flags Great Adventure.
And who wants to play on those shaky rides that the travelling carnies use? OK, I guess plenty of people do, but I'm not one of them.
Adventureland is small local amusement park, and showing some signs of its age, but it's a great place to kill an afternoon as long as you're not expecting the big time theme park experience.
The place is quite small, but they pack plenty of rides into this small space. The food is horrible, but what do you expect?
Prices are reasonable for the area and they have a fun little roller coaster. And they have all the staples: bumper cars, swings, etc.

This is the kind of museum you usually find in Manhattan or Washington - it is such a great surprise to find this little treasure tucked away on the far side of the Roosevelt Field shopping mall.
They have small aircraft from years ago, when the area was one of the centers of aviation (thus the name, Cradle of Aviation). Charles Lindbergh took off from the old airstrip here, and they have the sister plane of the Spirit of St. Louis on display.
But perhaps the greatest part of this museum is in the space sections (thanks the Grumman, Long Island played a major role in the space place). In addition to some great little rockets and satellites, they have an actual lunar landing module. Not a replica, but one that was destined to go to the moon before the Apollo program was scrapped.
It's an awesome moment, stepping into the room with the lunar lander.
In addition to the displays, they also have a great IMAX theater in the museum.

Let's face it: it is so difficult to find good, honest, reliable help in the auto repair industry.
Paramount Auto Body Works is one of the best you can find. They won't mess around with you. If you need auto body work done, this is the place to go if you're in the area.
Repairs are done on premises, so your car is not sent off to some random chop shop by an untrustworthy dealer. And everyone there is friendly and welcoming.
And the most important thing: you won't find any mysterious extra charges on your bill.
Oh, and one more thing: they don't have that sixth sense many auto repair people have - the one that tells them to pounce when you're in your weakest moment and need your car repaired. They won't take advantage of you like that - and what's better than that???

Eleanor Rigby's is exactly what a neighborhood restaurant and pub should be. The service is friendly, the food is delicious and the menu is both fun and creative.
The place, obviously, has a Beatles theme, and is heavily decorated with Beatles items and pictures. The front entrance is a beautiful etched glass door with the images of the Beatles, and a guitar fretboard for the door handle.
In fact, it's great to see a local restaurant - not part of any chain - take a theme and run with it. It adds to the unique flavor and atmosphere.
Eleanor Rigby's has very good bar-and-grill type food, with Beatles themed names. Yes, there is a Yellow Submarine sandwich. There is an appetizer called Yoko's Ono. And there is the delicious Father McKenzie burger.
if you're in the area, stop in - this is a fine place to eat.
Hint: Sit in the front room if you like it a little more quiet. Sit in the back for more of a noise bar experience.
