This is my favorite music venue in town. The lineup they get is fantastic (if you like folksy, rockabillie type music)- you can just show up any night and likely be pleased. It isn't pretentious like some venues, smoking is prohibited on the music side of the room, and corn stalks hang from the ceiling. Hank Williams Wednesdays are a hoot--covering tunes and offering a two step dance venue. You can catch dinner in Ballard (La Carta, Madame K's) and make a night of it.

We had never tried Afghan food before and we were happily surprised. Burta is the Afghan "raita", Ashak is the most interesting pasta dish I've ever had- pasta served with a yogurt garlic sauce topped with onion/tomatoe sauce and garnished with mint flakes (DELISH)... Treat yourself to this new cuisine. (prices range from about $11 an entree to kebabs at $15)

When the magnificent architectural wonder was first being constructed on 45th street, we were intrigued and excited. Having just returned from Bangkok, we were thrilled to see true Thai decor on the outside of the building right across from the Wallingford library. We ate there the first week it opened and much to our disappointment- the prices on the menu reflected all of the money it must have cost to build the place. Pad Thai for $11, Tom Yum soup for $14, come on! I know a dozen thai restaurants within 1 mile where you can get authentic, delicious Thai food for $6 an entree. This restaurant belongs in the Highlands or perhaps Madison park next to Cactus-overpriced ethnic foods cannot make it in Wallingford when Fremont has the real deal and just a mile south you can get into the heart of those countries in the ID. While the building is worth walking by and even peeking in, don't bother paying twice the price.

Ate at Crave a few weeks back with some friends and found a delightful selection of grass fed beef, organically grown veggies all in gourmet entrees at about $16 a pop. Good stuff- in particular the steak with mushrooms and the corn soup (may have been a special that night). I've heard that brunch is awesome- though popular!

My husband will disagree but he's no sushi snob- he likes the fact that it is cheap. Indeed there is always a line and the service is great but the fish pieces are just too big to be right or healthy. It makes me nervous every time we eat there that I'm going to have sushi belly later. Hasn't happened yet but I'd rather head to the ID for some cheap, delicate sushi pieces.

Okay, it is no Pancho Villa but we're not in SF. This place (though I hate to support a subsidiary of McDonalds) is pretty darn good. I had vegetarian tacos there at lunch today and the flavors were nice, quantity of guac on my taco almost too much (when does that happen), i had a great corn relish salsa and overall positive experience despite the long line of college kiddos. I saw on their menu they also serve free range pork carnitas from Niman Ranch- who knew? Sorry, I know. Next thing you know I'll write a Baja Fresh review.

I'll admit it. I LOVE WHOLE FOODS. I know it is pricey, I know that some ingredients are better purchased at Trader Joe's (which I do) and QFC (I go there too), but for many, many reasons the Whole Foods experience is just soooo good. I love food. People who shop at Whole Foods do too and the likelihood of gasping aloud at a delightful taste or a gorgeous piece of fruit and getting a response from an enthused shopper is high. The fruits, the veggies, the grass fed meats and fresh fishes, the yogurt selection and bulk granolas and cheeses and olives and beer assortment that challenges Bottleworks... And the sandwich bar- last night I brought a honey crisp apple to the counter and created my own brie/carmelized onion/honey mustard with sliced apples on a baguette hot sandwich- it was to die for.

We recently had a great experience with Tyler Acosta, the owner and founder of FineLine Painting & Restoration. He is professional, dependable, knowledgable and good at his work. We had all of our crown molding, picture rails, base boards etc sprayed and touch ups on our rolled walls and our place looks great!
