Ok, it's the insurance's fault. But, the last time I got glasses, it was at Target. I Love Target, but only get glasses there if you truly must. Even when they were new, I could not see out of my glasses.
Fast forward a year and a MUCH better insurance plan. I researched eyewear places in Judy's Book and Citysearch. All indications were to check out Ottica and the other shop in Freemont. I never made it to Freemont, which is fine, because I am VERY happy with the glasses I got at Ottica.
First, the frames: Lorelie (owner/buyer) selects frames that work for a variety of faces. This store is not just another Seattle eyewear place with dozens of rectangle frames that all look alike. (Go to Target if you want that.) Lorelie shops Europe and Asia to find cool frames - really good looking frames of high quality.
Second, the lenses. Ok, obviously this is the important stuff (right after looking good). Ottica provides only the highest quality, newest tech solutions for lenses. My lenses not only have a fab but subtle gold-tone, but are progressive and -- yes, it's true -- I CAN SEE!!!! (Not channeling Dr. Strangelove, really.)
So, if you want a more unique frame than what all the other shops have to offer, and better lenses, too, check out Ottica. See Lorelei, too. She is super at articulating how a frame works with your face, etc.

Hiroshi's in Eastlake is a hidden gem and serves the real thing. The sushi is fresh, generous and delicious. The udon noodles are terrific. The saba we ordered was huge and not overcooked and so just right!

That said, they are indeed a down-to-earth salon with reasonable prices. My haircut was disappointing - I really don't think the stylist had a clue how to cut my type of hair. (I was refered to her by the salon as THE one to see if you have curly hair.)

This is the original, Capitol Hill Top Pot - hidden in a residential neighborhood - difficult parking and all. The place has a wonderful ambiance with stacks of books and wood panels and all. Plus the old-fashioned donut is worth the fat and carbs! Coffee is good too.
Only thing: service is a wee bit chilly unless you are a very handsome construction worker, in which case the pierced gal behind the counter will be very nice!

Otherwise, they do have lovely yarns and super-cute reading glasses.

I have visited this store in many different contexts - from starting projects, to getting help, to getting my kids going with new projects. At every instance we have found pretty yarns in many different price ranges and received friendly, smart help from the staff.
While the shop is smaller than some I enjoy the cozy atmosphere. If you are inclined toward claustrophobia go on a weekday and you will have more room and the staff to yourself!

If were going to ingest these kind of calories they'd better be the best, right???

I love Trader Joe's and have been a fan since before moving here 15 years ago. Now there is one on Capitol Hill and I am happy as can be. My only beef: the garages at this store and the Univesity District store must have been designed by the architecturally-challenged (lame lame lame).
Otherwise, love this place!
