Hard to get all excited about a dry cleaner, but I have to crow for these guys. As Rich puts it in his review, they have been in the same location for 15+ years and are part of the community. (The owners live in the next block.)
We have taken dry cleaning and shirts to them for as long as they have been there and they never let us down. Recently I took a seat cover to them that had a nail polish stain out and they got it out completely (I had tried the usual home methods to no avail).
Jay and Kathy own it; Kathy runs it and does the alterations. She does excellent work and the price is fair (if a bit steep - you get what you pay for).

Not to be a drama queen.
I went to Seattle Healing Arts yesterday to be checked to see if I had pneumonia. I was pretty sick. (I've had pneumonia before, etc., etc. -- I was not crying wolf, honest.)
My doctor, Marcie Hammrick, moved to this clinic with the express purpose, she said, of being able to give more time to her patients. Well, not yesterday - apparently she was over-booked. So the receptionist put me in with another doctor. I never saw him.
After waiting 25 minutes for what was to have been a 10 minute appt., I had to leave - another obligation. The clinic's response was unhelpful - no more appointments until more than 24 hours later - and unprofessional (giggling on the phone about her boyfriend).
I won't be going back.

Ok, this is not exactly the kind of music you were asking about, but it is what I equate to summer: picnic on the lawn, chamber music, summer nights...
Ahhhh.

Consider taking a picnic and listening (for free) from the lawn, or supporting the arts and buying tickets for the season. Also, there is an incredible evening of young artists that will amaze you.

Pacific Northwest Ballet performs Jewels.
Wow, what a superb performance! Tonight we went to see Jewels, a Balanchine choreographed set of dances set to Faure, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky.
But first, a quick side note: I like the glitter and symmetry and pretty colors, and all, but I have to say after the first 45 minutes of a traditional ballet I have had my fill. One more Nutcracker and I'll.... oh never mind.
But the new director, Peter Boal, has really done some great work with the PNB, and tonight's performance was an excellent example. The three dances, Emeralds, Rubies and Diamonds, were each very different. Rubies was by far my favorite - the dancers actually looked notatall bored and were truly stretching their talents and the art.
I had heard that the old PNB set of fans ditched the ballet company when the old directors left and Boal came. Granted Boal is a mere "kid" at age 39, but he has really done something wonderful.

This AIN'T no Petco!!!! First thing you notice about Animal Talk is that the place is clean and does not smell of dirty cages. Second thing you notice is that it is the same gals that were there the last time you were there - the people that own the business appear to run the business.
This makes a bigger difference than you might think. At Petco you get whoknowswho who knows little or nothing about the animal you are buying. Well, that assumes someone is working there besides the cashier.
Anyway, to get back to Animal Talk. They take very good - I mean VERY GOOD care of the animals they have in their store. It is not just inventory to them. And, they have a really super rescue service, too.
Finally, I mentioned about how they love their animals... When we bought my daughter a couple little baby rats (sorry Cathy) the lady who had taken care of them since they came into the store kissed them goodbye. Now, before you think (scream?), "EWWWW," you have to realize these are the smartest, cleanest, sweetest rodent pets you can have. If you don't believe me, ask a small animal vet.
I digress. Anyway, we love Animal Talk.

Cafe Impromptu could teach other restaurants a few tricks.
This restaurant is actually inside McCaw Hall and appears to be run by Westin (!). My daughter and I attended a PNB performance tonight and had dinner at Cafe Impromptu first. She selected the Chef's special for us to share, which was a braised lamb shank in a merlot sauce. It was SO good - meat very tender, sauce flavorful, and accompanying veggies were perfectly cooked. We also had a side of the caeser salad, also very good.
But, here is the clincher. You order as you enter and pay. Then you take your number to your table and within 2 minutes you get your dinner. I am not exaggerating - it was THAT fast.
Here is another incredibly cool service thing: you can preorder dessert (or whatever) so that it is sitting at your table (look for the number they assign you) all warm and yummy when you come into the cafe during intermission! We had the berry cobbler. It was blueberries, raspberries with a perfectly crunchy sweet topping with a dollop of real whipped cream on top. Did I mention it was warm?
Would I go here again - Absolutely! The prices were fair and service was a very well oiled machine. No stress about being done in time. Delicious food. What else could one ask for?

The teachers at Suzuki are excellent and quite used to teaching young kids. In fact, most Suzuki kids start around 4. I strongly recommend you take your daughter to the Sing and Play class first, as an introduction. The kids learn really basic stuff like rhythm and get introduced to a couple instruments like piano, violin and cello. My kids have taken violin lessons from Sharon Miller for 8 years. We have loved it!

I kind of liked Cheesecake factory when the first ones opened in Los Angeles in the 1980s. But now that it has become a chain, the gimmick fails. The menu is overly extensive with ads on just about every page (tacky).
The food is pretty predictable for a corporate/chain restaurant and is consistently bland. The serving sizes are grotesquely large (supersize me???). There is no charm or creativity to this restaurant. However, people seem pleased to cue up for it, irregardless of its lack of redeeming values.

We have used this shop in every way - to buy bikes, all kinds, for repairs and for accessories like helmuts. The sales people are very knowledgable. They have been in business for ages, and the repair people are very knowlegable. An added bonus: across the street is Cafe Lago, an excellent local restaurant!
