I don’t get my hair cut very often, and when I do get it cut, I’m almost never happy with the result. I have super-curly hair and many stylists just don’t know what to do with it, so I tend to just let it grow and grow until I get really sick of it and then I get it all cut off and start the process over again. I’m also cheap, so I don’t want to shell out $150 or more for a stylist trained specially in New York to cut and style curly hair. At this point I’ve tried all of the stylists my friends have recommended as well as chain salons and they’ve all been pretty much the same (which is to say, not very good). When I reached the “I’m sick of it” point again this spring, I was out of options so I decided just to try the salon closest to my house. Even if they were no good, I figured at least I wouldn’t be spending a lot of time and money getting there.
Well, it turns out that the stylist at the Perfect Touch Hair Salon and Day Spa was wonderful. She gave me a cut that actually had some shape to it (as opposed to coming out looking like Little Orphan Annie) where I could wear it down, not pulled back, with just a minimal amount of goop in it. Mousse, I mean. It’s so flattering that after years of always having my hair long, I’m thinking of keeping it short from now on.
While I was waiting for my turn, I noticed that the other people in the salon seemed to be regulars—people coming in for manicures and haircuts who knew the staff and stylists well, which says to me that I’m not the only one who was pleased with the service there. I’ll definitely be going back.
