Mt. Fuji: Fun Show, Fantastic Food

Sunday, June 04, 2006
My husband is Japanese American. Japanese food is his soul food. We went to Mt. Fuji for the first time last night, and he loved it! So did I, for that matter. Anywhere there's a hibachi grill you can expect entertainment with your meal, and our cook, while much less manic than some I have seen, was fun to watch and listen to nonetheless, as he juggled knives, beat out a rhythm with salt and pepper, and literally played with fire. The food was excellent; very fresh and perfectly prepared. I had Teriyaki steak and vegetables and my husband had New York strip and vegetables. Both were equally good. From the clear soup at the beginning to the rainbow sherbet at the end, it was delicious. My only quibble is that there was so much of everything, and you're not allowed to take it home with you, so I was stuffed when we left. But if you have a big appetite, and you like large quantities of really good food prepared in front of you, give Mt. Fuji a try. By the way, reservations are a very good idea.
