If you have out-of-town guests visiting, the Underground Tour is a good tourist activity to take them on. The tour guides are friendly, there are many tours every day, and it is a fun way to learn more about the history of downtown Seattle. Some of the information they tell you is hard to believe! It is an interesting tour, but unlike other Seattle tourist activities (Space Needle, Pike Place Market) I don't feel the need to do it more than once.

The Olympia Farmers Market is nice and big, with lots of stalls to browse through. They offer produce, jam, meats, flowers, and other goods. I have been very pleased with the quality of everything I've bought. The vendors are friendly and it's fun to chat with them about their products. it's a great place to buy gifts or stock up on fresh groceries. There is lots of parking nearby, and they are open almost year-round!

The Tacoma Art Museum is a good place to start on a tour of Dale Chihuly's work, then continue on by Union Station and then head over the Bridge of Glass to the Tacoma Glass Museum. The museum has many permanent displays of art, plus special limited time exhibitions. I saw the Dale Chihuly Mille Fiori exhibit there, which was amazing! There is a small gift shop, as well.

The Supermall is a great destination on hot summer afternoons. There are shops to browse through, an expanding food court, lots of fun for kids (movie theater across the way, carousel, climbing wall, kiddie rides and play area) and plenty of shops. The mall is laid out as a circle, so if you want, you can get a great workout by doing several laps around the mall. It would be nice if there was a stationary card store, like a Hallmarks.

If you are visiting Dayton and like to ski, check out Ski Bluewood. It is 21 miles from Dayton, WA, which itself is a half hour from anywhere you've probably hear of (such as Walla Walla). There are two dozen plus runs, which range from easy to black diamond. Be careful on the road up to Ski Bluewood, it is narrow and twisty.

Music lovers will love this store. They carry all kinds of CDs and DVDs, not just the mainstream ones. The The staff is very knowledgable and can help you find what you are looking for. They have an almost incomprehensible point system of paper dollars you earn when you buy things; you can use these to get free merchandise after you collect a certain number.

You can find some good bargains at this Goodwill if you are willing to look. It is a busy store, so it may be hard to find a parking space or shopping cart. Be warned, I don't think they take credit cards (they do take checks and cash). They have a large selection of books, if you are looking to add to your child's library inexpensively. They also have a good selection of clothing.

When I visited the Seattle Aquarium a long time ago I remember being not very impressed. However, I went back recently and had a very positive experience there. If I lived closer I would get a yearly pass, because it is a kid-friendly (mostly indoors) place to visit and revisit. There are summer family programs offered that sounded interesting, as well as the regular exhibits. The price is very reasonable.

The Sea Sprite is a small hotel with the feel of a b & b. The first floor (really more like a daylight basement) has smaller rooms. You can get rooms for larger parties above and to the side. It is right off the beach, but if you are looking for something in downtown Cannon Beach, this is not it. It is south of Haystack Rock, which means it's quite a walk (or a short drive and then a search for parking) into town.
