It's more low-key than Disneyland, but also less crowded. There is a whole Camp Snoopy area geared towards kids. Make sure to have a chicken dinner at Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant.

Grandma's Sugarplums is a small shop on 2nd Street in Long Beach. From outside, you can smell the treats available inside. You can buy single candies, ice cream, or sample one of the cheesecakes from the rotating display in the front window. They have limited seating. Parking can be difficult. It is a great place to go in the evening after a trip to the beach.

We have enjoyed using the Auburn Y. It is a fairly new building and is very clean and quite large. There are a wide variety of classes offered for all ages, including family activities. My son took beginning swimming lessons there. I was pleased with the locker room, pool, and the instructor. When we were signing up everyone was friendly.

The Woodland Park Zoo is a fun place to visit and revisit. If you live close enough, check out the yearly pass option to save money. There are some beautiful exhibits. My son especially enjoyed the monkey, jaguar, and hippopotamus habitats. Bring a stroller for your little ones because it is a big zoo and there can be lots of walking between exhibits.

Wild Waves is a little pricey (around $120 for a family of four) for other than special occasions. They do have water fun for all ages, and it is a good-sized park. There are plenty of water areas for all ages, even for our 1 1/2 year-old. You can spend all day there, but don't forget your sunscreen: the park gets very hot!

Westfield Shoppington Center, or Southcenter, is an extensive mall with many shops. If you don't find what you are looking for in the mall, located all around the mall are more shops, including bookstores, restaurants, movie theaters, many furniture and electronics shops, including most any chain store you can think of. This is a great area to visit if you want a lot of choices or want to compare items before buying, without having to drive a long distance between stores.

The staff is helpful and friendly. There is an Internet Cafe attached to the hotel where you can get coffee, and the Weinhard Cafe is across the street.

I drive 45 minutes to this office because I like them so much! I am always very pleased with Dr. Walters (and Dr. Nelson, who works in the same office) and the whole staff at Nelson and Walters Dental. Everyone is friendly. They have a nice waiting room, but I never get to spend any time there because my appointments always start on time. Getting your teeth cleaned and checked is never much fun, but they do a gentle, thorough job here.

The only compalint I have about this company is that I felt very underdressed looking at the nice suits everyone was wearing. We had a will drawn up here. I was pleased with the service. John Bagley patiently answered all our questions and was happy to elaborate when we didn't understand. He made some helpful suggestions so we wouldn't have to redo the will later on (for example, after having more children). There is plenty of parking.

It's not a movie or a typical theater production, it's an audience participation show where audience members shout out suggestions that the cast members use to improvise short comedy skits. It's a different show every time you go. There are Theatre Sports shows Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Try to reserve your tickets in advance; if you just show up the night of the show they may already be sold out!
