Expensive but high quality meats and seafood as well as fresh fruits and vegies as well as cheeses, teas, biscotti, etc etc can be found at this upper east side gourmet market. They have an extensive selection of prepared foods such as sauteed eggplant, sliced pork loin or roast beef as well as tempting baked goods - nice cakes are small but beautifully decorated starting at $10 and petite pastries (like yummy lemon/raspberry/mixed mini fruit tarts and eclairs) are $1.25 each but you have to get at least 6. Can get crowded as store is configured in a 'u' shape with entry at one end and exit the other. Helpful and friendly service.

Just off First Avenue, this neighborhood cleaners on the upper east side has amiable and courteous staff and does good dry cleaning at reasonable prices. I trusted them with my son's expensive prom tux and was very pleased with the service. A cleaned and pressed men's tuxedo with vest and tie cost $23. Tailoring available on premises.

Yes, the food is terrible and overpriced but who can resist singing YMCA during the 7th inning stretch and watching the American flag wave in the breeze during God Bless America. You might even catch a glimpse of our old Mayor Giuliani.
Take public transportation, the subway is cheap and safe. Taking a car is a nightmare!

Nice neighborhood store that is stocked full with a great selection of interesting toys. It's definitely not ToysRUs and carries toys that kids will spend some time with - quality over quantity. There are nice crafts, puzzles, construction toys, tea sets, puppets, science kits, etc. Prices are reasonable and there is a great child's gift to fit all budgets.

In this spacious store, which has recently expanded, you will find beautiful and high quality stationery, wrapping and tissue papers that you can purchase by the sheet. They also carry unique albums and desk accessories as well as a nice selection of children's accessories like interesting paper punches. Quite expensive but lovely to browse in and maybe pick up something special.

Nice bright and colorful apparel shop for children that is attractively displayed - they look appealing and they are very reasonably priced, with frequent sales but oh! no! the collars or sleeves get pulled out of shape after they are washed! After a few tries, I've given up shopping here - you'd be better off paying a higher price to get some quality goods!

Fun to browse for adults as well as children, this famous toy store has lots of what else? toys to play with. Everywhere you look, there are fun and enticing toys beckoning you. A great place to go on a rainy day to spend a couple of hours. Great displays of Legos and Playmobil, there is even a small Lego area for kids to build their own creations. Lots and lots of beautiful dolls with all their accessories, giant stuffed animals. No bargains here but what do you expect from a Fifth Avenue toy store?

On 12th & Broadway, this well known bookstore is easily accessible by public transportation (take the subway to 14th Street/Union Square). They really do have a lot of books here - new, used, reviewer's copies, art books by the ton as well as books on various diseases, books about sports, etc. etc and a really great selection of children's books. Most books are half price and there are bargain carts out front where there are books for only a dollar! A booklovers dream! A great place to browse! Yes, it'sa bit dusty and it is a bit hot in the summer but there are fans and there are a lot of treasures to be found. Very helpful staff. Great prices.

Good prices and many sale items in this Upper East Side "drug store." Definitely not fancy and not scrupulously clean but okay. The sale items are usually in the front of the store just as you enter so you don't have to go look all over the place and can just dash in and out. Many different items from the usual personal care items like aspirin, shampoo, diapers, mouthwash as well as small selection of toys, food, small electrics and hair brushes and accessories and you can buy a Lotto ticket too! Convenient and reasonable.

Inside you will find a nice selection of dog and cat toys as well as different colored leashes and various sized bags to carry your pet. There is also a small selection of greeting cards, decorative cat/dog feeding bowls and mats, various medicines and sprays as well as canned and bagged food. Don't forget the treats and snacks!
