These wrapps are enormous and they are so yummy! They have something for everyone: vegetarian and vegan wraps, low calorie and low fat wraps, smoothies, rice bowls, and salads. Some of them can tip the calorie meter though, but all the nutrition information is available on the website before you go if that's a concern - theoretically, they probably have it on site as well. I have never left hungry and my kids like their kids meals too. It isn't high on atmosphere, but there are tables and booths. Delivery is available through their website and you can order online (if you are making a big order - you and your coworkers for lunch) for pickup.

This is a teacher's supply store open to the public. Every year they have a great art sale were you can stock up. They have things you actually see in the classroom so if you want to homeschool or just supplement the classroom experience, you can buy classroom type posters. They also have a great selection of workbooks for you to practice with your children and early readers to encourage your little one. They have those big pencils we had when we were elementary schoolers that help kids learn the correct grip. They have great instruments (jingle bells, triangles, etc.) to help encourage your children to continue their love of music that they might get at gymboree or another music school. You could get community helper dress up clothes. It's fun just to browse and think of the possibilities. Generally, the price is lower than you can get elsewhere.

We started going here after Just Kids Cuts in Burlingame started raising their prices, but now this hole in the wall, one stylist 'salon' continues to raise their prices and I'm bailing to Supercuts, at least for my son with his "basic boy cut". I might continue to take my daughter here because I think a girl's cut is more important and more difficult. This salon has a small but toy stuffed waiting room. They also have a limited selection of hair product and sometimes sell toys from "Nature at Play" toys. They have the requisite race car chair and the video-sedation set up. It's right on El Camino near Crystal Springs Road and parking is sometimes problematic.

Your kid's first salon! It's nice to have a place where kids are welcomed vs. tolerated. There is a large waiting room with lots of toys which occupies the kids while waiting to be seen/siblings busy while brother/sister is getting hair cut. The chairs are in the shape of rockets and they video-sedate them so they can cut the hair. My son has never gotten a bad cut here, but each time we go, it's more and more expensive. I think it was nearly $20 for a basic boys' cut, making me want to fight my inner snob and take him to Supercuts where it's only $11 for "basic boy cut".
The adjoining beauty market is nice if your kids need a lot of overpriced product. My daughter's more of a Johnson and Johnson's no tears/Goody barrettes girl rather than a Bumble and Bumble girl.

I called Dr. Bowers on a referral from a friend who has been his patient for years. It was an "emergency", for me at least, since I am blind without my glasses and my glasses were cracked. My old doctor could see me a week later - a WEEK! Dr. Bowers could fit me in that day. He gave me a complete examination and ordered my glasses. Since I have a small head, he suggested children's glasses so I could save money since my vision plan doesn't cover everything. I've had glasses for years and I haven't been a child for years and no one has ever suggested that! The optician in the office is knowledgeable and got my glasses quickly and is happy to adjust my glasses when I bring them in. The receptionist is always pleasant and there is hardly a wait from checking in to being seen.

This has a independent dollar store feel, most of the merchandise doesn't seem worth a dollar, but there are hidden treasures. You can get name brand batteries here most of the time, great children's partyware (cups, plates, glasses, favors, etc) and character (care bears, star wars, etc) merchandise. There are also mylar balloons for parties cheaper than at the store and the big suckers they sell are great if you are heading down south to Disneyland and want a cheap souvenir for the kids. I make sure to check every few weeks at least and always seem to find something I can't live without!

We went here to see Eric Carle and have him sign books. I was impressed with the knowledgeable staff who truly seemed to be excited about his books and books in general. They handled a big crowd efficiently and patiently. I was also impressed that they allowed him to sign one book that was not purchased at the store as long as you bought a book there. The only thing that marred the experience is that they sold out of his books pretty quickly. They did have a contingency plan, having him sign a name plate for a book you could order, but I was disappointed that they didn't anticipate the huge draw someone of Eric Carle's prolific career would attract. I definitely would go back here, if I'm in the area or if there is another author I want to see. The prices of the books didn't seem outrageous and I like the idea of supporting an independent and keeping more competition for B&N and Borders alive!

This is a "zoo" where all of the animals are native to California and none of them can live on their own (some were born in captivity elsewhere and don't have their wild instincts, others were hurt in the wild and rescued). The docents are knowledgeable. There are exhibits that change every few months. They have free admission on the first Wednesday of the month and it can get crowded. It's also crowded on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month when they have "Toddler Tuesdays" when they have crafts and activities for a nominal fee above the admission price. Their yearly membership is reasonable and includes reciprocable admission to many other zoos and science museums across the country. They also offer nice birthday parties.

I generally go to this restaurant for lunch with my mom and my children. Though it isn't what I would call kid-friendly per se, my kids like the food on the menu and it seems a cut above the artery-clogging fare usually on kids menu and keeps them busy with coloring. The portions for adults are large and reasonably priced. What I like best is that I can get whole wheat pasta and my mom can get low carb pasta to suit our dietary needs. We have always had quick service and they are also quick to make it right if the food is not the way we ordered it or to make a substitution for something we don't care for.

This generally looks like a normal grocery store. But their merchandise is much cheaper. Some of their stuff is items that have been discontinued and some of it perishable items soon to expire. They have bread, produce, dairy, frozen foods. Thrift store treasure hunt strategy has to be in play when you get here - if you see it, buy as much as is reasonable because most likely, it won't be here the next time. My greatest score was a box of ORGANIC squeezable applesauce for 69 cents expiring in a month. I took it to my playgroup and a friend had bought the same exact product for her son at Whole Foods for $3.89! They also sell toys and videos, beauty products and other nonfood items.
