I was referred to Dr. after a root canal. My dentist could not get all of the root and was worried about infection/abscess. I called and was fit in within a week since it wasn't an emergency. Dr. offered me a Walkman to listen to whatever I wanted to while the drilling happened. This was great because I have two small children and am always listening to Raffi or Barney! My mother was watching my kids on her lunch break and I think she got back 15 minutes late - it was that fast! He came in and was very relaxed and wham, bam before I knew it was done. I don't mean to say he wasn't professional, it's just that he's done so many of these, it is second nature to him. I have had no issues with this tooth, which was infected at the time. I highly recommend Dr. Michaelian.

When I lost weight and my engagement ring and wedding rings were falling off, my husband and I went to the mall jeweler. My wedding band is actually a ring jacket and the mall jeweler couldn't assure me that they could size it without ruining the ring and referred me to Carlyle. They were fast and reasonable . Unfortunately, I'm not in the market for new jewelry, but I will definitely check them out. I have to think as an independent jeweler, they have some unique items as opposed to the cookie cutter stuff you get at the mall.

On one hand, their prices are high, but you also have to consider the fact that in the age of ToysRUs and Targets on every corner, it's good to go local! The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The selection is good and it's big enough that the kids can try the ride ons and play with some of the toys without disrupting shopping. They have a pretty good baby gear and baby gift section and some unique wood toys you don't find at the homogenous chains. They do carry the name brands though - Little Tykes, Leapfrog, Kinex, to name just a few. Dolls, bikes, trains, this is your place! They also are very active in the community, offering fundraising opportunities. They offer free giftwrap for the wrapping impaired. If the prices spook you, send the grandparents!

We were lured in by the good deals on produce that they advertise in their circulars, but this is our favorite place to buy bulk grains. The produce is pretty good too and the prices on packaged food are reasonable. There is a European cheese market and how can you not love a store that gives samples of cheese? There is also a great bakery. There is an ample wine section. And you can find organic foods along their aisles. You can get some of the same things as Whole Foods, but with a more homey feel.
It is located in the shopping center off of the Hillsdale exit on 92 in San Mateo across the street from Gymboree.

First and foremost, I love this place because when you order chicken tenders for the kids, it's REAL chicken (not processed) and the breading is something you would make at home, nice and crunchy. It moved from 3rd Avenue to 2nd and B Street recently (and you might miss it if you don't know where it is - the awning says Moon's Pub). It's right on B and you can people watch (keeps me AND the kids entertained) while you wait. I have had the portabello mushroom sandwich and it's excellent! I've also had a burger and it was good. The prices are reasonable and the menu is big enough to please. One complaint was that we took my husband out there on Father's Day and they were out of his first 2 choices. I'm sure they weren't the only ones who ran out of things on Father's Day, but they didn't look exceptionally busy and what he ordered wasn't a special. But we've been back since and it's becoming one of our regular stomping grounds.

One thing I love about them is that they allow after hours and pickup after hours - they'll just charge your card and leave it on the street. They are competent and courteous. What impressed me was I had a burnt out head light and they just changed it within 5 minutes and charged us only for the part, no labor. To be fair, it wasn't a huge job, but I guess we're jaded to getting soaked for car repairs and this just earned our loyalty. We have referred friends and have never heard any negative feedback.

Nony has been my agent since 1999. My husband and I thought it would be good to have life insurance so we could stay home with our child we were expecting should the unthinkable happen. We left with a gift for the baby, "What to expect the Toddler Years". She and her office staff are friendly to both adults and kids and my kids don't mind going with me if I have business with her because she always has cookies and they always leave with a toy. She checks in with us about twice a year to make sure our coverage is still relevant to our family.
One problem I have had is when we upgraded our life insurance (new house and new kid), the first bill we got was 3 times higher than the monthly premium. As you might expect, we were upset and phoned Nony for an explanation. I'm not sure I ever got a good one. As best as I can tell, there was some "catch up" between our old coverage and our new coverage that was being allocated to a few months of our new coverage. I'm sure it's pretty standard and would not have a problem paying it, we just wish she had the foresight to realize that these things happen when coverages change and warn us ahead of time. I have to say I'm still a little angry about it, but on the whole I think Nony's a good agent and don't plan to change agents.

As you walk in and are waiting for your party, you notice their great bar! They have over 50 types of tequila! It's a loud but fun atmosphere. The menu is huge and at least to this gringa, seems authentic. I guarantee it's more authentic than Chevy's, at least. My group of friends is pretty diverse and we have some picky eaters in our midst - no bellyaching here! This is one place we all agree we love! They offer takeout, delivery through Waiters on Wheels and Waiters.com and they offer pick-up party platters. You can reserve a room or the whole restaurant for special occasions.

This a family owned paint-your-own pottery place. It has flat hourly rates for painting and a maximum that you will pay. I went here with a group of 8 families with 3 year olds - brave souls we! It was great fun and the kids had a ball! They offer parties at their location for kids and adults and allow you to bring in your own food. They also offer "to go" parties, where they come to you - fund raiser at no cost to the school or organization, funded by the people painting the pottery. According to the website, Kids paint free on Tuesdays!

Unfortunately, I don't receive a lot of flowers. My only interaction with Dana's was for a donation for a benefit. They didn't hesitate when asked for a donation and when I picked up the arrangements, they were absolutely gorgeous, highlighting the colors of the season. Presentation counts and most of the other arrangements I picked up from other florists were in simple plastic pots and to be transported in plain cardboard boxes (like you'd get cases of coke on). Dana's were in beautiful vases and packaged as you would expect were you paying for them. If this is what they do for non-paying customers, you can just imagine what they are like for weddings, funerals, flower holidays (mother's day, valentine's day). I have been recommending them without hesitation ever since. Maybe I just need to recommend them to my husband!
