I don't like cupcakes. I don't like cake. I am a brownie girl all the way. I didn't watch Sex in the City,
BUT - I did wait on line one summer night just for the sake of waiting on a line that went out the door...just to see what all the hype was all about. I tried one of their plainest cupcakes and yes it was delicious. Must have been all the frosting...its thick and creamy and reminds me of pure butter creme. Its quite indulgent and I had to share mine...but worth it.
My friends and I ate our cupcakes on a park bench across the street where the garbage cans were overloaded with cupcake wrappers and napkins. At the end of the night the staff of Magnolias goes over to that small park area to clean up the garbage and excess that was evidently from their store. I was quite surprised and it made me respect that small business just a bit more aside from their wonderful creations. Thumbs up!

I stumbled on Jurlique when I was looking to try a new place for SpaWeek. This Australian based company really sparked my interest with their holistic approach to skincare. This location only has one aesthetician for each appointment, so you don't feel rushed and you feel like you are really being taken care of. The signature facial was very soothing and smelled great. I was massaged while my face was layered in exfoliants and scrubs that smelled like oatmeal and honey. My skin was glowing after I was done and I was quite pleased.
Although, I am used to a more thorough extraction ( forehead, nose and chin) and skin treatments I can feel (tingly)
Maybe I thought this was not a strong enough facial for me or it could be I have been too rough on my skin thinking that "going to work" on my skin was actually better.
Their products were a bit pricey and they seemed reluctant to give you more than several samples.
I would eventually consider going all natural for my skin care routine and when I do decide to...I would go with Jurlique.
Overall, my experience was a good one.

I began to go to Bliss Spa several years back when the prices were quite reasonable. Although, they have risen quite significantly over the years...I still find myself going back. The massages are the best you can get in NYC. Skilled hands and techniques that go strong throughout the duration of the hour you are there.
I usually fall in and out of a slumber to awake to glowing skin and a feeling of lightness that lasts the entire night.
The facials are great for refreshing your complexion and the overall experience of Bliss will leave you simply in a relaxed state.
Nice staff, clean and calm environment.
Quite indulgent and you deserve it, don't you?

The Strand is such a hipster cool hangout for the intellectuals of all ages. All types of books of all walks of life. Whenever I pass by I have to walk in just to see what catches my eye. It truly is the best used bookstore with the best discounts. Don't forget the shelves of books outside surrounding the store that sells for only $1.
Its so worth to pick a $1 book up when you realize you have an hour before you meet someone or you need a book for the train ride home.
Since some of these books are from way back when...you'd be surprised at the selection and the great find of an interesting read.

When there is a sale...you can get these for $2 a pop...a total bargain since a little goes a long way.
The white barn candles last long and smell great. You can burn it for several minutes and it will smell up a room with a light lingering scent. My favorite is the Lilac candles that smell like fresh florals.
Now that they have upgraded to offer Bigelow products I have to suggest some of their products as well. The lipshine peppermint gloss is a must have. Super shiny and slick without being sticky. So no more wind blown hair in your face and stuck around your mouth. It also says you can dab a drop and freshen your breath...when on sale you can grab some for $5.50 and several times they offer a coupon where a purchase can nab you one for free.
The rose scented anythings are lovely. The toner water smells good, feels clean and works well to clean up your complexion.
These are the usual products I stick with and I haven't tried the other products but I must say the sales are good enough to give them a shot.
Must walk in!

Whether you are furnishing a dorm room, or you need to stock a kitchen, this place rocks! I can stay in this store for hours and just look at the cute designs they have to offer for all your household needs. Great place to buy linens and bed coverings also. The prices are great and they also have monthly coupons in $5 or 20% dividends that save a lot of money. Also some stores let you use as many coupons as you want so its not a "one per customer" limitation.
Customer service is impeccable and reliable. They are always friendly and ready to help. Returns are easy and attitude free.
They usually have a hugely discounted section where out of box merchandise, returned items or easily fixable damaged items have slashed price tags.
I have found some great deals and I always go back!

My friend and I go to Philly to eat and shop on the weekends. We decided to try the Chinatown buses since the ride was just too cheap to pass up. We reserved our round trip tickets online since you save a couple of bucks this way. We made our way down to Chinatown and found the bus that corresponded with our reservation and got on. The bus scene is organized just barely enough to have order...what I mean is if you needed to go you can basically pay your way onto a bus at that very moment.
The interior of the bus was not in the greatest shape. I walked to my seat through the aisle and slightly bumped into another seat and the cushion fell off. We thought that was funny because we expected it to be a low quality ride due to the price and just expected some wheels to go the distance. When I sat down and reclined my chair I almost fell back flat...my friend burst out laughing. I don't know if this was all that bad because I popped my ipod in my ears and went to sleep...comfortably. I woke up to use the bathroom and was surprised that we were almost entering into Philly. I ended up not using the bathroom because it was smelled so bad that I couldn't hack it. It smells like they don't care to maintain the chemicals in the toilet and it almost made me purge.
My experience was a good one. We thought we would try roughing it and took a budget ride. It got us to where we wanted to go in one piece and in record time. The business of these Chinatown buses have really come a long way. At least they have licenses now and are acknowledged as a real business from the DOT.
NYC can be grueling and expensive...so why not take a cheap ride for a day trip during the weekends?

I was eating dinner here 2 days ago and it was so warm inside that it was quite uncomfortable. I am usually wary of sushi restaurants that are too warm because they are serving raw foods that stay out in room temperature while being prepared and served. The presentation was good, a nice spread and good selection. The fish was OK and I thought it may have been on the mushy side which goes to say it wasn't the freshest of fish. This was a friday night so I was surprised, since the place was bustling and the place was packed, that the fish should move fast enough to be fresh.
I have eaten here on several occasions because my friends like the food and like I said its OK.
I wasn't too impressed and there are far better sushi places for the same amount of loot. So don't settle!
UPDATE: I decided to eat here again...not good.
The rice was hard and chewy and no vinegar so it was bland. The rainbow roll looks pretty but you look up close and its mostly imitation crabstick and asparagas, with a thin layer of fish and avocado on the outside. It is just enough to look nice but you dont get much fish here. This restaurant seems to be real stingy on the avocado and will charge you additional for anything consisting of avocado.
Not going back anytime soon.

The food here is OK. I wouldn't say its one of the best sushi places. Its great for a quick dinner for rolls and noodles dishes. I wasn't all that impressed with that place. A nice place to stop by with friends and grab a drink and a bite to eat. They do have Jazz nights and its a sort of kind of trendy place to be. Not authentic so there are much better finds for real Japanese food that you may find more satisfying.
Mediocre.

I rushed here with my friends to try the new hot grub. We left with with an unfulfilled feeling that usually a good thai coconut soup would satisfy. I have had authentic thai food from friends who's grandmother had cooked for hours in the kitchen and I have to say it was bland for what it was advertised for. The spicy food was surface spicy, which means it wasn't that nice cooked in flavor but more shaken on top kind of flavor. The noodles were a bit over cooked and the most flavorful dishes were seriously lacking that delicious zing to your taste buds.
You cant mess up thai iced tea or rice too much so you really have to concentrate on how the meat is cooked and how they were spiced.
Absolutely, a real disappointment and I would not make my way in that direction anytime soon. Would not recommend to anyone looking for real thai food.
